What if JJ Abrams Directed The Legend of Korra Movie?

Posted on August 19th, 2012 by Keval

By now, most of the Avatar Fandom has heard about the potential Legend of Korra Movie. Ever since the news was released, forums, comment boards and even YouTube videos have hosted discussions constantly. Since the idea of a movie is currently a popular topic within the Avatar Fandom, I thought it was a good idea to discuss the possibilities.

If you revisit the Variety article that broke this news, the author mentions that Mary Parent and J.J. Abrams could be involved in a few of the future animated movies being made. Personally, the only movie I’ve ever scene from Mary Parent was Pleasantville, which was for my English Paper last year. So I think it’s safe to say that I’m not too familiar with her work, but I am very familiar with JJ Abrams’ work. If you’re not too familiar with Abrams, let me fill you in: he was the director for movies like Star Trek (2009), Super 8 and Mission: Impossible III. He was also the director for the show Lost.

Based on this, I think it’s safe to say that JJ Abrams is a big-time director. And the fact that he could be involved in one of Paramount Pictures future animated films begs the question: what if he directs The Legend of Korra Movie?

One thing you should know is that all of Abrams’ films are action packed, gripping and they contain a phenomenal story line. He has a knack for only making good movies, and that’s why whenever I see a movie with Abrams’ name on it, it instantly becomes a film that I plan on watching at my local AMC Theatre.

As a result, if JJ Abrams does direct The Legend of Korra Movie, I wouldn’t expect anything less than the best from him. Even though directing an animated movie would be uncharted territory for him, The Legend of Korra isn’t just another animated movie like Ice Age (not hating on Ice Age, just an example). The Legend of Korra is much, much more.

I couldn’t name another animated series or film that has a deeper story than The Legend of Korra. There are a lot of non-animated movies that also lack the fantastic story line that The Legend of Korra has.

So all in all, JJ Abrams would have a lot to work with if he directed The Legend of Korra movie. He’d have (mostly) likable characters that he could develop, an amazing setting and a fantastic story line that could also be further developed.

M. Night Shymalan was well known because he made the ‘twist’ popular in movies. JJ Abrams is well known because he just makes good movies that are gripping, action packed and intelligent.

M. Night Shymalan butchered The Last Airbender movie for reasons I cannot comprehend. If JJ Abrams directs The Legend of Korra Movie, I truly believe he will revive the ashes that Avatar has become on the big screen.

So what do you think: would JJ Abrams be a good director for a potential Legend of Korra Movie?

He's making a Star Trek Sequel to the one in 2009 next year. Can't wait!

No way! Thats going to be so cool.

i doubt it going to be made anyway. At least not in 3 years.

Yeah I totally agree. Why would they be making a movie now after only one season? That just doesn't sound right to me. They should wait until near or after the fourth season so more people know about the series and would actually go to a movie based off of a television show, not to metion the character's would have more development by then and would actually be movie worthy.

I think that he would make a great movie. Just don't mess up The Legend of Korra.
