Korra’s Female-Twin Cousin in Book 2 of The Legend of Korra will be Named Eska

Posted on February 27th, 2013 by Keval

Bryan Konietzko went at it on Tumblr earlier today to reveal a bit more Book 2 news. We didn’t get any kind of picture this time, but we received some information that was oddly left out at Comic-Con 2012.

We’ve known all along that Korra’s Male-Twin cousin’s name would be Desena, but Korra’s Female-Twin cousin was left nameless for a while. Today, she received a name.

Bryan has used his Tumblr to announce that the female-cousin’s name will be Eska.

Desena and Eska

The news isn’t really a HUGE deal, but it does debunk my theory about Korra’s Female-Cousin being named Opal, who is currently a mystery character set to be voiced by Alyson Stoner.

better than no news right? although why didn't they tell her name earlier?

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorra.wordpress.com Keval

No idea. I have the same question too. If you're going to reveal the guys name, why not the girls too? But whatever, it was no big deal.

  • Sabrina

I think this is what they give us to make up for no release date. *silence* Yeah, a character name doesn't cut it, Nickelodeon. Try again.

Now that the sarcasm is out of my system, I'm going to go rewatch The Ember Island Players. :)

  • Kotoi

If Eska is her name, now we don't have any idea of who is Opal. Does someone here know who April Stewart will voice?

By the way, I've seen the pole, and I saw that Cartoon Network is winning. I just want to say that if there was a chance of transfering LOK to another channel, I wouldn't recommend CN. If you saw what CN has been doing with Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice, maybe you'd think like me. Actually, the Fanterns and the YJ Fandom already considered what channel they would like them to be transfered if it was possible, and I think most people thought of Nickelodeon. In my opinion, CN doesn't give the support that Nickelodeon gives to their shows, at least from what I've seen from the treatment YJ and GLTAS receive from CN compared with the treatment LOK receives. Yes, Nickelodeon had 2 awesome opportunities to reveal the release date and it didn't. Yes, the books only have between 12-14 episodes. But I don't think that can be compared with what CN has done with shows similiar to LOK.

P.S.: If you don't think the same, don't insult me or something like that. I'm just sharing my opinion, and you can share your opinion below if you want.

It wasn't Nickelodeon who revealed the character's name. Bryan did. And yes, I also think that that is to make up for the release date, but I doubt Bryan or Mike have the permission to reveal the release date, because then they probably would.

Take it on the bright side: at least something that we can be sure it's true was revealed.

    • Sabrina

      True, true. :]

  • Diana

Thats kind of cool, maybe the reasone tgey didn't tell us before is because they hadn't figured out a name yet?

  • Tumas-Muscat

I agree. CN is probably the worst offender right now when it comes to mistreating its good shows, basically cancelling anything it can't make a profit off of with merchandise (which is often aimed at younger children anyway). It's been going on for a while now, with such great shows like Samurai Jack and Sym-Bionic Titan also getting the axe. Thankfully, at least the popularity of the shows has been noted and some are apparently picking up where they left off in comic book form: http://www.themarysue.com/cartoon-network-comics/

Yaay! We finally have the girl's name! It's a nice name, in my opinion. Sounds nice. :)
Had a strong feeling that Opal wasn't her name…but…who's Opal then? o_o Iroh's mom? :P Or if Kya has a daughter, or maybe Unalaq's wife, if she's still alive..

is the male cousins name tribute to Jack DeSena who did the voice of sokka in ATLA?

  • Ian Almeida

I wonder if the shows just not ready yet? I mean, now that there's going to be a total of four books, they might incorporate a better story line that will combine the newer books in some way. For example, as far as I've heard, it sounds like Amon is history maybe the villain in Book 2 will have something to do with Book 3? I'm trying to say that things won't be so rushed and they'll bring some more depth to the characters and the avatar world in general. I think its just good that we have many possibilities with this show and that more time just might mean an overall better show moving forward :)

  • sarai brooks

I was wondering when they would put her name out but Again tries Nickelodeon tries to I don't know throw a book at us and says sorry for the release date but no that isn't good enough for me if Nickelodeon wants to say sorry then I say give us a release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
And last this is the last time I'm saying this ! Give ! Us ! A ! Release! Date!

  • lost northern

WOW not really original….i bet they got the idea from the water bottles Eska

In hulu, it says that book 2 of lok will be released in the summer of 2013 :(

  • avatarfollower

They may have purposely left her name unknown at cc 2012 b/c the directors and producers knew Alyson Stoner would make known her character's name and didn't want the public to know anything other than that tidbit of info. Loose lips so to speak.

That's what I thought. Nickelodeon is way better than CN, I am a fan of YJ and CN treats YJ and GLTAS like poop. Several hiatus, canceling a new episode less than 24 hours before it was going to be shown for a RERUN OF A STUPID SHOW (still bitter) . I mean, Nick is not that bad, sure ATLA had its hiatus's, but not as bad as YJ. And at least Nick saw ATLA to the very end, we have no idea if YJ is gonna leave on a cliffhanger or not. And there's way more to the story anyway! CN and its irresponsible behavior is breaking thousands of loyal fans hearts and they don't give a shit! (again, still bitter). In conclusion, Nick was kind enough to not only order a spinoff after fan prompting, but ordered more episodes after the initial order. It takes time to make a quality tv show, and we just have to trust Bryke and Nick that the episodes will air when their done, and they will be epic. -Filmeditor16
