Book 2 of The Legend of Korra to Release in the Fall for Canada – Summer Release for US?

I couldn’t even tell you how I ended up on the top Canadian news site this morning, but needless to say I’m glad I did. I stumbled upon an article published just 19 hours ago that revealed YTV’s plan for the Fall season. I wasn’t sure what YTV was at first, but after doing a bit of research, I found that YTV is essentially Canada’s Youth Television Network.

The network airs shows targeting Canada’s youth, many of which are 3rd party shows from other television networks such as Nickelodeon. The article detailed YTV’s plan for the Fall by announcing all news series’ and returning series’ that would be airing on the network in the upcoming season. To my surprise, one of the returning series’ YTV listed for a Fall release was The Legend of Korra.

Though there was no month or date listed, we have confirmation that Book 2 of The Legend of Korra will air in Canada sometime during the Fall. But what does that mean for Book 2’s premiere in the United States?

Hint, Hint: It’s a good thing!

Shows in United States almost never premiere at the same time as the respective show in Canada – they generally tend to air much earlier. Just as an example, Sam & Cat will premiere in Canada on August 12th. Sam & Cat premiered in the United States on June 8th. Wendell & Vinnie will premiere in Canada on August 12th as well. Wendell & Vinnie premiered in the United States on February 16th.

As you can see, there is no formula to figure out when a show will air in the United States based it’s Canadian release date. But one trend that has generally remained constant is that series’ tend to air in the United States earlier than they do in Canada.

If you take that into account, the fact that Book 2 has been confirmed in Canada for Fall basically confirms that the latest the United States will have to wait for Book 2 is Fall. In fact, if the trend I talked about earlier remains constant, we could very well receive Book 2 in late Summer. But don’t expect anything before Comic-Con – I’d say anytime after July is fair game for Book 2.

Yes – that’s right; I’m saying that Book 2 COULD premiere as early as August (I personally don’t think it’ll air until September). Expect confirmation on this in less than a month (impersonating Nickelodeon’s ‘cryptic’ tweet) – Comic-Con (duh).

    August?

    • MitchGunner

Woohoo! I held onto that sliver of hope that Book 2 would somehow air in August! And now I think I may have been correct!

  • dchpavatarlocked

I think we’re too late for a late summer premiere. It probably will be fall and most likely after it airs in Canada it will air in the U.S.

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

There’s exactly a 0% chance that Book 2 airs in the US after it airs in Canada.

      • Kotoi

Well, I would like you to know how you are so certain of that.

        • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

YTV reached a deal to air Nickelodeon series’ in November 2009. They won’t be able to air Nickelodeon series’ unless Nickelodeon has actually aired it first. YTV won’t be able to air Book 2 until Nickelodeon actually airs it.

          • Leo

There is no such thing as 0% or 100% chance. It’s possible that they’ll make an exception if Nick goes crazy.

          • Impossibru

I think Keval’s right when he ssaid there’s a 0% chance of YTV airing Book 2 before Nickelodeon (which is in the US) does. As written above in the article, “The network airs shows targeting Canada’s youth, many of which are 3rd party shows from other television networks such as Nickelodeon.” meaning there’s no logical way YTV can release Book 2 before Nick does, as Nick would be the original “first party”/original releaser of Book 2, AFTER which YTV would release Book 2.

          • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

            Exactly.

          • Guest

Nick is Canadian too isnt it

          • Cecile

            There is a Canadian Nick

          • Cecile

There is a Canadian Nick but yes it is more likely that it will air in the us than Canada , because when i go the the US (i live close to the bridge) on TV theres so many tv shows that episodes that didn’t even air yet. ._.

I probably shouldn’t have said 0%. What I meant to say that it’s about as unlikely as you can get.

          • Kotoi

Umm… Ok then. Let’s see how this goes.

          • Katie

Well, the worst we all could possibly get at comic con is a “Coming Soon” at the end of a possibly aired trailer, but I think we’ve all got expectations set for a second trailer. I’ve got this feeling we’re only gonna get Book 2 a few weeks before Canada. Probably early September (my birthday! :D) Or very very late August. XD LOK Book 2 would be the best present ever.

          • Kotoi

Early September is my birthday too. XD

          • Guest

            There is a Canadian Nickelodeon

  • Filmeditor16

Cool. about time! hopefully Canada doesn’t get book 2 before us like they did for Book 3 of Avatar. I still remember watching Day of Black Sun from a Canadian who had posted it online.

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

      Yeah, that won’t happen again.

      • Kevs

        Oh c’mon I’m Canadian…But I wouldn’t mind if you guys got it first…

    • TheBritGirl2000

“We’re going to be at San Diego Comic Con!

The Legend of Korra cast is going to be hosting a panel at the San Diego Comic Con on July 19th from 11:15am – 12:15 pm in Ballroom 20!

Hmmmm… what do you think we’ll be discussing at the panel?

There’s Janet Varney (voice of Korra), Kevin Coppa’s Korra puppet, and some Dust Bowl-era Okie who bears an unsettling resemblance to me at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con. We are beyond excited about this year’s Korra events and offerings at the Con and we’re glad Nickelodeon has finally started revealing some details about it all. We really hope more Korra fans can make it into the panel in the cavernous Ballroom 20 this year. See you in SD!”

    • Katie

Someone made a Last Puppetbender for Korra? If only Neil Cicierga was into LOK & ATLA

  • Leo

It’s actually possible we’ll get it later. Look at Total Drama Island. The US had to wait a few months after Canada aired the show. Though it is a quite terrible show…

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

I suppose anything is possible. But I’d say it’s unlikely.

      • Katie

        Wasn’t TDI produced in Canada?

        • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

Oh you’re right. TDI is originally a Canadian show that eventually premiered in USA after it premiered in Canada. That explains it.

  • Cecile

    Hey im Canadian xD lool

  • Sarika

on nick uk there was an advert saying LOK book 2 would premiere on 7 July

  • Korratastic45

Early September is my birthday. :D (September 5th.) Book 2 would be the best present ever. :D

guys get on bryans tumblr there’s a really nice pic he posted

  • george

Wasn’t there an episode of A:TLA that premiered in Canada before the US? I think I remember watching it online before it came out, and the explanation I heard for it was that it had already aired in Canada or something…anyways, I think A:TLA Season 3 was only about 2 episodes behind in Canada, right? But then again, it was two months behind on LoK Season 1. On the other hand, though, it’s been over a year since the premiere of Season 1 in Canada, and the time is well ripened for Season 2 to start…

    • george

…And maybe the process of acquiring the rights will be quicker since they’ve already done a season of the show, and maybe YTV is more sure they want to broadcast it.

  • Kai

bryan confirmed a winter release on his tumblr and he even has a new picture of Bumi,Tenzin and Kya looking surprised by something

    • Stephen

I don’t think he was confirming a winter release. He was just comparing Book 2 to winter because both of these are eventually going to come in the future.

    Mann check out bryan’s tumblr

  • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

People are saying the Bryan confirmed Book 2 for Winter, but to me it seems like he said Book 2 is coming just like Winter is coming. Thoughts on this?

    • Dman

I think it should be save to say we’ll have it by the fall. I mean, after all we can not discount the previously mentioned fall release of Book Two in Canada, and it would not make sense for them to release Book Two in the fall while we wait until winter (especially since its an American cartoon). I just think Bryan was trying to ease the minds of fans by saying it will definitely air this year, but I think by saying winter her only enraged us.

On a side note, from what I’m hearing about Book Two, it’s even better than season one and I’m thoroughly excited. Hopefully the wait will be worth it (But I think it would be a lot more bearable if we just had a definite release date!) Sorry for my rant and me bouncing from argument to argument. The price of being a Korra fan.

  • Guest

This is from Book 2 right?!

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

Yeah. Book 1 aired June 2012 in Canada so this would be referring to Book 2′s release time frame.

      • daniel yefru

well usa book 2 will have to air first unless lok was a cannadain product show like total drama islanda then it air earlier but its not

  • Cecile

    We’ll have to wait for Comic-Con ._.

  • Mez

There’s usually a formula to when shows air and end. A season tends to be no less than 12-13 episodes, roughly 3 months. Winter airings usually start either in January or late December, spring in April/late March, summer in July/late June, fall in October/late September. So if Book 2 is going to air in the summer, it would have to be next month, which would be odd since Comic Con isn’t until mid-July. Yet, seeing as this is Nickelodeon we’re taking about, everything really is up in the air…

  • daniel yefru

omg you know tmnt season 2 is coming september so it could be possible nick wants lok to air september too like a saturday block of premires so it may be early september

  • daniel yefru

the reason im scared that canda might air book 2 first then maybe a cannadian will upload episodes and there will be spoiliers and shit but i pledge to not ._. wacth any of those xD

  • Doodles

Personally, I see LOK airing sometime early fall. I think summer time would be stretching it, if they had planned on airing it in the summer, I would assume they would have done it more or less at the beginning of summer rather than the end of it. It makes more sense that way. Anyways, im just happy to know its coming out SOMETIME. Rather than those shws that say “SEASON 2 COMING SOON!” and then month and month and months go by, years, and so on. No season 2. . e.e

Legend of Korra is a really decent effort for a Western studio as far as animated series are concerned.

If it ever makes it to the big screen, DO NOT EVER LET M. Night Shayalaman TOUCH IT, EVEN WITH A BARGE POLE.

Possibly one of the only directors who has managed to make worse films with each new movie release and continue to remain employed. Must be a miracle.

Looking forward to season 2 when it airs. Expecting excellence.

  • Canadabro

This logic is a little off, nationality has nothing to do Avatar release dates. As an example, Canada aired the Western Air Temple episode in Avatar’s 3rd season a good month or two before you guys got it, two of the earlier episodes in the season were aired in Britain before anywhere else, and the Boiling Rock episodes actually came out on dvd first before they ever aired on tv. As a Canadian myself, I’ll let you know YTV usually gets stuff around the same time you guys do. It’s our main cartoon channel, with Teletoon and Family channel covering everything else. They’re pretty good with keeping up to date with hot shows currently on tv, especially Korra.

  • Canadabro

Not that it matters much, with streaming and torrents and whatnot.
