Book 3 Art of the Animated Series Book Listed, Season 3 Details Revealed from Cover

In an interesting turn of events, Amazon has listed The Art of the Animated Series for Book 3: Change on their website. According to the listing, the art book will be available in stores on January 15th, 2015. While Amazon is considered a reliable source, the release date for this particular product could be a placeholder since it has not been officially announced.

I wasn’t expecting the art book for Book 3 to be listed until sometime after the premiere of the new season, so it’s safe to say that I’m pleasantly shocked. The description of the listing is very much generic for an Avatar-styled art book, so there isn’t much there in terms of Book 3 details.

There are, however, a few Book 3 details visible on the cover of the art book.

The first thing I noticed on the cover was the background. The background appears to depict the Northern Air Temple, which hints at the possibility that Book 3 will visit this particular location. The last we saw of the Northern Air Temple was when the Gaang helped the inventor and Teo fend off the Fire Nation.

51duE-6f9mL._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_The battle left much of the Air Temple’s rocky base in shambles, but it looks like buildings were constructed to fill in the large gap. It will be interesting to see what other changes occurred to the Air Temple in last 70 years.

The last thing I noticed was that Korra appears to be holding a glider. This leads me to believe that Korra will be spending a lot of time in the Air Temples this season – particularly the Northern Air Temple since is appears to be depicted in the background. Since Korra’s animal guide does not fly, the only way for her to reach an Air Temple without a flying bison is by gliding herself.

Korra’s new-found glider will help her do just that.

Day by day, Book 3 appears to be the richest season of Korra yet in terms of content. It’s almost unbelievable that the writers managed to fit it all in 13 episodes. Hopefully we get some news on the release date sooner rather than later.

  • ajames123

Now that was some awesome stuff!

I have a feeling that book 3 is gonna be in bigger scale. and have a deep story line.

    • Aang

You are always interested in the past Avatars and all this stuff i am sure your excited now!! X)

      • ajames123

        Exactly!

  • Legama

She let her hair dow! Wohoo!
This looks very interesting. I smell a kind of search of the past story (Looking for Yangchen’s knowledge maybe?). The fact that she will be visiting the northern air temple is wonderful. But the killer detail here is that she’s carrying a glider, just as Aang, although i find her too heavy to ride one XD.
We are definitely seeing a season closer to ATLA in all the senses, this cover just yells it loudly. Seriously this Book just gets more promising every day :D

    • Aang

Yeah buddy she has her hair down in most of this cover stuff maybe the people who make it also know that she looks way cooler with her hair down! :D

      • Legama

        Yep, she really does XD.

  • AirMonkAang

How awesome would it be if that was Aang’s glider that Tenzin kept or something? So excited for Book 3 now!

  • Loklover

OMG! This is getting me soo excited!

  • Aang

Awesome!!! Northern Air-Temple here we come with a glider!!! X) Haha this is gonna be fun book 3 is gonna be sooo amazing finally we get out of RC and SWT and go out to the Earth Kingdom and Air-Temples!!!

  • Sibis

The picture might not have any actual significance to Book 3 and is just art.

I want LOK to have a new opening to match the changes brought on by the events of Book 2. Replacement benders for Fire, Earth, and Air; merely to go along with Korra being cut off from her past lives. Republic City background updated with the Spirit Wilds. Korra in the forefront with Raava by her side in which the spirit of Light is acknowledged. New narrating lines to acknowledge Korra’s new role in the world.

    • http://www.performerfx.de/ PerformerFX

Give this guy an award. Exactly my hopes and wishes for Book 3.
But well: I’m pretty sure that the cover is somehow related. A random art on this artbook? I don’t think so.

    • Aang

The cover maybe related man.Well yup we need all of that! I am looking forward to some conversations taking place between Raava and Korra even if the past avatars are gone Raava is still there. :)

    • Tumas

Well, judging by past covers, there is at least some significance. The fist one had Korra with Republic City in the background, the second is her spirit-bending. So I think the Air Temple and/or the glider will be somewhat important at one point of Book 3.

  • Zuzu

This hints on a June release date, and i’m more than pumped now for Book 3. And i predict that we’ll be seeing a new opening of Korra, without the avatars bending the elements.

  • MG

The Northern Air Temple is built on rocky black mountains, but the shading and accent does not seem to allow us to fully ascertain the colour. But judging from the plot, it was predicted that Book 3 would take place in the Earth Kingdom (in order from the Avatar cycle), and the Northern Air Temple IS in the Earth Kingdom. Not forgetting that Vacation Tenzin got cut short in Book 2, it might be a good chance for us to continue the vacation.

I doubt Korra uses a glider to fly to the Temple, since they have Oogi, and also an airship as shown from the leaked trailer. Let’s also not forget that Korra received a bison in “Beginnings 2″, that was never mentioned again. The glider could merely be an extension to Korra’s airbending training, since she hadn’t had complete mastery yet, judging from her still aggressive style of airbending, and that Tenzin was drilling her in airbending during “Harmonic Convergence”. Considering that Avatar Roku learnt using the glider for airbending, maybe Korra could further her airbending training to more match the traditional style, but honestly, I prefer Korra’s personal style to match her fiery and aggressive personality.

  • Link9150

The glider she is holding strongy resembles Aang’s. Aang’s second glider was thicker on the two ends and it looks the same with the one Korra’s holding.

Also, seeing her hair down gives me hopes to see her change a bit appearance-wise which does demonstrate that she is changing as a character.

As for the Northern Air temple, it can be seen to have some sort of village on the bottom. I wonder if this indicates that those who used to live up in the temple have moved down to show respect for the Airbenders and keep their relics clean.

I love Airbenders, they’re my favorite nation and this book does seem “richer” as Keval said. I’m getting the feeling Bryke will impress us with this one, let’s hope so.

  • Ariana Moreno

wow. i am amazed at all this book 3 stuff we’re gettin. they say that when korra’s hair is down it usually means that something extreme has happened, like a fight or who knows what! But that must be another hint of some action we will get in book 3! i am also surprised that we are getting any hint of the book 3 art book at all, when the second one hasn’t even come out yet…hm, a little weird to me, but maybe that’s just me. maybe this is just a method for the creators to keep the fandom excited for what’s to come. who knows…but all i can say is bring on book 3! i’m ready, and i’m pumped! X) yeah buddeh!

    • Sibis

Korra with her hair down with the usual temperamental behavior around old traditional Air Bender stuff. What could possibly go wrong?

      http://www.loupiote.com/photos_l/18314559-temple-burning-man.jpg

      • Ariana Moreno

hahah XD that’s a flashback of Tenzin’s when he saw what Korra did to that maze thingy the kids tried to train her with Xp

    • Link9150

That’s true. There’s so much to talk about in this Book. I know it’s not my sort of thing, but I’m kind of optimistic about this Book. My guess is that Bryke had time to hear our complaints and apply the corrections and patches onto this new Book. Can’t wait to see the final result!

      • Sibis

Criticism of Book 3 will have no effect on Book 4, because it will be past the point of no return for Book 4 once Book 3 starts.

        • Link9150

          Yeah.

          • Ariana Moreno

when you see a shooting star, it’s because of me ;)

          • Link9150

            Hahahaha Nice one! xD
I keep falling that damn track as well. Everytime I play the 3DS version online and this track is picked I’m either 7th or last… I just feel like Korra when she destroys the airbending training set in Book 1 ;)

          • Ariana Moreno

haha XD yeah, the only reason why i play is to screw people over and send them flying off. if i end up off the track, it’s only a result of an attempt to knock someone else off hehehe B). oh well, more shooting stars for everyone! >:) mouahahahahaha!

          • Link9150

I’d love to play against you one day, If you ever get a 3Ds get the Mario Kart 7 one!

          • Ariana Moreno

you’re on! and this includes that super smash bros game you showed me as well. you owe me a match bro. B)

i will see what i can do.

          • Link9150

Nothing beats competition ;) Can’t wait to have our match!

          • Link9150

Just saw The Amazing Spider Man 2 premiere last night… And there’s a scene that just… hits you right there in the heart by the end.. The entire audience gasped in shock.
If you find yourself bored during the weekend I strongly recommend to watch this movie.

          • Ariana Moreno

duuuuuude!! :D yesh, i was actually thinking about seeing that this weekend! X) thanks for the recommendation!

          • Link9150

You will not regret it :)

    Can’t wait any longer….

  • http://www.pinterest.com/destodes/avatar-legend-of-aang-legend-of-korra/ The OnionMan

arr, the .gif doesnt work. here the Picture :]

  • Kyle Edgecomb

It looks specifically like Aang’s staff used in the second half of book 3, cause looking at tenzins staff and the kids, they have the old style staff…..but the way that staff looks….my guess is that Korra gets ahold of Aangs old staff in which it is possible that either Tenzin has kept for her or maybe was stored somewhere (speculation the Northern Air Temple as a possiblity). I like the fact that Korra gets Aang’s staff, its like passing the torch in a way (even though that kind of already happened at the end of Book 1)

  • ahmedumer

Damn Damn Damn did you all saw korra in this cover OH MY GOD.I am telling you guys this that book 3 will be a hype book.GET HYPED.GET HYPED.

  • Josh

Wow! I really feel as if this art cover supports my theory of there being some sort of Airbending antagonist for Book 3. And since it’s the Northern Air Temple i’m even more excited. In the short Book 3 trailer you can sorta see the face of the mysterious Airbender. And based on their complexion they look to be of Earth Kingdom decent. I was always intrigued as to why that was, but now it makes perfect sense. If you remember, the Northern Air Temple is inhabited by Earth Kingdom refugee(I’m not sure if that fact changed throughout the course of ATLA and TLOK, but i’m assuming it didn’t) Although the refugee’s were far from spiritual, they were still able to adopt some of the Airbenders technology and philosophy. Many of the refugee’s were adept at using gliders and stuck to the idea of being as free as the wind. The Mechanist helped modernize the Northern Air Temple, but in doing so he warranted the arrival of the Fire nation. Remember in ATLA how there were secret rooms that only Airbending masters could get into? I always wondered how the Mechanist was able to enter, being that he wasn’t an Airbender. So I came to the conclusion that he invented some sort of artificial way of airbending. Now that 70 years have passed, maybe his invention has become more advanced. Allowing people to imitate Airbending. In the trailer the mysterious Airbender uses her abilities to jump higher, nothing to grandiose. Maybe the place she is trying to enter has information on the origins of bending. What if she is trying to find a way to become a true Airbender? Now that spirits are back in the world, the Lion Turtles may also return to fulfill their duty as protectors of mankind. This mystery person could seek the Lion Turtles, and eventually be given the power to truly Airbend. Or there is no artificial Airbending technology, and this mysterious person has already visited a Lion Turtle, or was just born an Airbender. But I still think that all the evidence points to there being another Airbender besides Korra and Tenzin’s family. The question is how, and why.

    • avatarfan

I was looking through the avatar wikia the other day and came across and airbender called malu. “Malu was an airbender whose mother hid her in a mountain cave to escape the Fire Nation’s storming of the Eastern Air Temple”
      Maybe she has decendants….

  • Nico

    Lovin the news

  • Raavatar

Ugh! You know that feeling of having a deep sleep till Korra returns? Please… Wake me up when off-season ends…

  • Bryn

No, it is too light in colour to be the northern air temple, and too yellow-ish to be the eastern air temple, i think this is the southern air temple. And that is Aang’s glider that the mechanist gave him, omg so excited for book 3

  • Tumas

I have to say that, while news is trickling down slowly, it’s making me more exited for Book 3 by the day! Spirits living among humans again, the possibility of seeing Zuko, fostering a proper friendship between Korra and Asami, re-visiting the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom, and, now, the Northern Air Temple too? It all makes the long-ish wait for Book 3 seem to be worthwhile.

As for the book itself, already pre-ordered!

  • razorstar90

Well we know one thing for sure. The creators got the memo that we like Korra with her hair down. They heard that LOUD and CLEAR.

  • GhostWarrior

Attack on Titan and Naruto are both epic and have held me over for this long but im out of Attack on Titan episodes and idk when season 2 wll air, and Naruto is stuck in a filler cycle. I NEED MY ANIME HURRY IT UP KORRA!

    • Aang

      Yup! Need something !!!!

      • Zuzu

Naruto needs to get out of the filler cycle because all my friends have quit watching it now.

  • Sibis

Korra is in a time where she has to learn to be more cautious about her actions as the Avatar. The worse thing she would have to deal with is liability. Either Korra has financial supporters for many lawyers, Varrick starts Avatar insurance, or has all the governments give her some kind of immunity from liability claims for Avatar duties.

Legend of Korra: Book 3 “Change” Where’s my money?!

  • Zuzu

Judging by this Book 3 should release incredibly sooner, probably during late July after comic con, we we will definitely see a trailer and get more news relating to Book 3 and 4. So in my opinion the September release may not be likely and we will see Korra come incredibly sooner as stated during later July, It was confirmed on Feb 11th by MDDM that Book 3 production was incredibly near completion. We have also been told many times By Bryke that Book 3 will be an incredibly short wait and it is coming SOON repeated twice furthermore an image which of the Team at Studio Mir Korea, saying they are hard at work finishing animating the last few episodes. By few, possibly 3-4 episodes at max that needed to be done, shown on Feb 11. The trailer from the Netherlands also during the Mid February also shows that we wont be needing to wait until the second half of the book to see something amazing, exemplifying the fact that this book will be amazing from start to end. Book 3 is probably complete, maybe just requiring some touches for perfection. But this release date for the Art of the Animated series on January 20th just shows that we’ll get an early release date, 1-2 weeks ago i convinced myself we’ll be getting a September release date now i think we’ll get a July release date. As there was a gap of 10 months between the End of Book 2 till the release of Book 2 art of the animated series. I personally believe Studio Mir when Book 3 airs Studio Mir would have finished animating the first and second episode and by the end of Book 3 Studio Mir would’ve animated at least 4-8 episodes, so there will be an extremely short wait between Book 3 and 4. All this “evidence” points this out. Releasing Book 3 during late July is reasonable as Comic con would’ve shown us a trailer and some news and we’d get right into Book 3. Fingers crossed for a July release date.

Here is what I observed about romance from Legend of Korra.

    1. Bender Guys like Mako, Bolin, and Tenzin need something out of the relationship to be satisfied and stick around. Otherwise, they’ll tuck their tail between their legs and jump ship the moment things turn south.

    2. Non-bender ex-girlfriends like Asami will never get honest answers.

    3. Bender ex-girlfriends like Eska, Lin, and Korra are psychos leading to anger fueled violent outburst.

    • Sibis

Mako: [Softly.] Hey, can we talk?Korra: Of course.Mako: There’s something I’ve been wanting to tell you about the fight we had. I know I said it wasn’t that bad, but, that’s not exactly true. I, uh, you were a real *bleep.*Korra: I remember you for being a backstabbing *bleep.*Mako: Wait, I thought you said you lost part of your memory.Korra: I did, but being inside the Tree of Time, brought it back. I did not want to accept the truth about how terrible you are.Mako: Come on, I think we’ve both said things that we regret.Korra: I’m not Asami, so why didn’t you just tell me the truth in the first place?Mako: I know I should have, but, I didn’t want to hurt you all over again.Korra: That was a lie. You tucked your tail between your legs like you did with Asami.Mako: Fine! This entire relationship was a mistake.Korra: I agree. Us? Doesn’t work.Mako: So…Korra: It’s over. [Cut to a frontal shot of Mako’s sad face.] Deal with it.

      • Zuzu

Mike and Bryan would’ve done something better with the fillers i mean some of the fillers in Book 2 were a bit boring except not all of the fillers in Book 2 only some, there some classic ones which are amazing. I think Book 3 will be a bit more intense and will have the same emotional impact on audiences like ATLA had. The love triangle thing,..I’d not mention it, disliked it. I mean ATLA took romance in a whole new level it had comedy and it was amazing. I mean the romance between Eska and Bolin, the starting wasn’t as great, it seems like you start of with a rift and there is no “go between” and then you have a resolution. Romance in ATLA was taken to a new level just seeing Sokka’s love life with Yue and Suki. Sokka’s funny, Bolin still needs to catch up. Something i miss in TLoK from ATLA is just the comedy, it’s good Varrick was funny, i wish we see more of him in Book 3 and 4. As stated by the creators Book 3 will be heavily featuring the aspects of emotion and hopefully we’ll be going in depth and getting the chill feeling, which we did get during the finale of Book 2. I’m just pumped for Book 3, finally we’ll get to see the gaangs more spiritual side. I’m also hoping for a Zuko-Iroh reunion. Sad to say but we’ll also be expecting a trajic death in Book 3 and 4. With the love romance, the creators have already considered and have changed things relating to it.

        • Sibis

Romance in LOK is of low or no quality.

Mako-Korra and Mako-Asami has no quality to it. The writers put them together, but never give it the needed writing to make it meaningful or stable. Mako and Korra friendship supposedly builds up during time skips in Book 1, which leaves the raw emotion for on screen with no stability.

LOK leaves us out of about 60% of the process when it comes to bonding.
