Earlier this evening, David Faustino (voice of Mako) had PJ Byrne (voice of Bolin) on his radio show titled Old Scratch Radio.
The duo discussed plenty of topics unrelated to Korra, but they did speak briefly about Book 3 and its release date. At one point during the show, David Faustino said Book 3 would be coming in September. Quickly after, PJ Byrne interjected and said “maybe.”
As expected, Twitter blew up and everyone and their mother were tweeting things like Book 3 in September, OMG! @NickelodeonTV, WTF? Why do we have to wait until September?
I almost let it play out, but I eventually interjected. First off, it’s worth noting that PJ Byrne did say “maybe” which suggests that David Faustino’s statement was pure speculation. For those suggesting that Byrne’s reply was meant to be a cove-up, I should remind you that voice actors know just about as much as we do when it comes to the premiere date of Book 3. Remember when Janet Varney (voice of Korra) “confirmed” the premiere date of Book 2 last year on Twitter? Varney stated that Book 2 would premiere in April, but – as you probably remember – it didn’t premiere until September.
Moral of the story, voice actors know very little when it comes to television scheduling. They simply don’t have access to that kind of information because it’s not a part of their job. To clear the chaos on Twitter, I essentially summed up all the information above in 140 characters. To my surprise, David Faustino noticed the tweet, even though I didn’t mention him, and acknowledged it. Here is what I tweeted:
David Faustino said Book 3 could premiering in September. Janet Varney also said Book 2 would premiere in April. Voice actors don’t know.

Aside from the obvious grammatical error, you’ll notice that David Faustino retweeted my tweet which essentially means he agreed with what I had to say.
What this means is that David Faustino was simply publicizing his thoughts as to when Book 3 will air. Nothing was confirmed by him. As we learned multiple times last year, Book 3’s premiere date won’t be confirmed until the head honchos over at Nickelodeon announce it themselves. Anything you hear from outside sources is pure speculation. We obviously shouldn’t completely ignore Faustino’s input, but it would be unwise to assume Book 3 will premiere in September simply because he says so.
Just to keep the record straight, I still firmly believe Book 3 will premiere either this April or May – although I am beginning to lean towards May since I was expecting to have an official trailer by now.
