Legend of Korra Book 2: Episode 3 ‘Civil War – Part 1’ Preview Clip

We’re only two days away from Book 2’s third episode ‘Civil War’ and Nickelodeon has finally released a preview clip. At the end of the Book 2 premiere, the network released a short 15 second promo clip, but this clip depicts a full scene from the new episode. This preview clip gives us a better understanding of the lives Tenzin, Bumi and Kya lived as children. Watching the interaction between the characters is quite interesting, but what’s even more appealing is learning about unique relationship Tenzin had with his father, Avatar Aang.

The clip ends with Meelo coming in and making another childish joke, but the clip really does justice in expanding our interest in the relationship between Aang and Katara’s children. Perhaps their discussion will initiate some sort of flash back of their childhood?

Be sure to check out the full clip from Nick.com below:

  • daniel yefru

why didnt kya and bumi come to those places

  • daniel yefru

    elephant koi. sounds like aang

  • daniel yefru

    LOL bumi cover ur self

  • Hi

Yeah, I’m surprised Bumi wasn’t on the elephant coi trip

  • MG

I can somewhat understand why Aang dotes on Tenzin the most. For one thing, Tenzin is the only airbender child, and is thus the only person to continue the airbending teachings and the Avatar lineage. Following Aang’s death, Tenzin became the last airbender until Jinora’s birth, and still the last airbending master.

Here’s a bit of trivia: Tenzin is Tibetan name which means “defender of the faith”, which is pretty much Tenzin’s purpose in life. Tenzin is also the second last name of the current Dalai Lama, Gyatso being the last name of every Dalai Lama.

  • Nico

It only makes sense that Aang had to spend more time with Tenzin. They were the only two airbenders in existence at the time and Aang basically had to teach him the entire air nomad philosophy and culture so Tenzin could pass it on. Thats a lot of time in lessons, and if the back end of that is Kya and Bumi getting cut from the vacations then thats that. But lets face it, Katara probably loved Kya the most, just like Aang loved Tenzin the most. So the one we should all really feel for is Bumi. Short end of the stick.

    • Gatsby

Yes, and riding elephant kois and building sand castles is such a deep part of air nomad philosophy and culture. lol

      • Nico

Well if everything they did was strictly business, Tenzin would have went crazy. Aang had to show him a little care free attitude. Thats how Air benders are suppose to be when their kids, remember.

        • Allen

Still, he could have brought his whole family along anyway. It’s important to not be blinded to every flaw the characters have, no matter how beloved they are. I think this is the point they’re trying to get at with Kya and Bumi- how they’ve been shafted aside for the ~airbender child, and how once the air nomads found out that they weren’t airbenders, they were immediately pushed aside and dismissed.

          • Nico

Were talking about an entire culture that basically got wiped out. A genocide. Most of the air nomads can’t even bend, they just sit on top of the temples and hope that Aangs line of children can repopulate their broken culture. These people are not sworn to the avatar they are devoted to air benders, and if your not one you’re screwed. Not even the avatar’s children get special treatment. And like I was saying earlier why did Kya even care? She was probably learning super awesome water bending from Katara the whole time. So really the only person i’m gonna feel got shafted is Bumi.

          • Allen

Well, my main point was Aang’s treatment of his other children- there was no need of him to just include Tenzin along on his trips. After all, airbender, waterbender, or nonbender, Tenzin, Kya, and Bumi all have the same blood- they are all descended from the same people, the same cultures. In a biracial family today, just because one child may look more like one parent, doesn’t mean he or she can’t take part in the culture of the other parent.

          • Nico

appearance is one thing, and natural ability is another. Airbending is probably super sacred and shouldn’t be taught to someone who doesn’t belong with other airbenders. Not like it matters, because it looks like Bumi and Kya were doing there own thing. Bumi making moves in the United Forces and Kya learning steezy waterbending. I bet Katara didn’t take Tenzin on waterbending trips with Kya.

        • george

Him? I don’t know, I’m surprised Tenzin’s head didn’t explode with the amount of fun they had.

      • Professor Farnsworth

That’s the best way to teach kids: Make it a game, not a classroom exercise.
A bunch of airbending forms, repeated? Boring.
Make a sand castle by airbending?
        Now you’ve got a kid’s attention.

Watching my kids’ brazilian jiu jitsu teacher keep their interest week in and week out with “games” really drove this home for me.

        • george

I have a professor this semester named Professor Farnsworth.

    • MG

Bumi has his uncle Sokka, I guess

      • Kyle Edgecomb

Or King Bumi if he was still alive lol

  • Kailee

Good morning uncle bumi… do you have a baby in there?? Haha :D

  • Bingppp

lol, Pema’s poker face as she watches her half-naked brother-in-law…

  • Req

Bumi is already my favorite character. He brings something to the show that was missing in Book 1.

  • HYA

Who’s going to the New York Comic Con where they’ll be discussing and showing sneak peeks of Book 2?

      • Bunnyrabbit

OH WAIT! She’s probably Kuei’s daughter since Kuei was reinstated as the Earth King after the war in “The Promise”

        • Kyle Edgecomb

I think i put it togetger……lin is the earth queen but turned it down, making tophs husband,….kuei

          • Bunnyrabbit

Toph was 13 while Kuei was like…30. So..

  • Ray

    Facial expression

    • john smith

    • Kyle Edgecomb

No surprise as Kya is Katara’s DAUGHTER

  • Kyle Edgecomb

Someone give me a link to where I can watch this in my country (I live in UK)

  • Allen

Omg…the animation is so horrible. :( It looks so basic and rudimentary.

    • MitchGunner

I think it looks fine. In fact, the opening shot looks great.

    • Aeri

You’re being so spoiled. The animation is fine. Ever since we got the info about the animating studios, everyone’s complaining about it.

      • Allen

Some shots looks fine, but do you seriously not see the differences in the lighting, coloring, and lines? It’s a lot less clear-cut and a lot more sloppy.

Here’s a picture that REALLY shows the difference- http://25.media.tumblr.com/4fd990aaa0ad8bfc64bb7e8c3ec33f0a/tumblr_mrmxbumvBC1qlh352o1_r1_1280.jpg

        • Aeri

Yes, some spots are really bad, but try your best to not find something to complain about now that the wait is over.

        • MitchGunner

Yeah I agree, I think Studio Mir is definitely better at animating the show overall, but I saw some similar animation to scenes from Book 1 in The Southern Lights that looked better than Book 1, such as the warships coming in at the end.

  • chewgum

can you put it on youtube for the not usa?

  • daniel yefru

wow, I love these little backstories!
Nice to see the writers showing some negative side of Aang :p I mean he’s a sweet boy in the show but the dude wasn’t a an angel, all avatars had flaws. Aang always geot worked up about the airbending heritage (seeing Gyatso killed (logical), the new inhabitants of the air temple, the aang fanclub getting arrows). I can easily imagine his over-dedication when he found out the third child was an airbender, kinda ignored the other two :(
Hopefully the siblings can connect with their father during this season and talk things out (bring them closer together)

  • Ju Dee

In wonder when they’ll show the subset of airbending. Any theories on what it could be?

    • el chupapenes

I saw somewhere a while back that it was sound bending, which was a bit disappointing to me. I was hoping for something a little more… intense.

      • Kailee

Sound bending?? I was kinda hoping that the subset of airbending would be creating a portal to the spirit world. Now that would be awesome!! :D

  • Aeri

I love kya’s voice actor. They chose perfectly.

  • Freedom Fighter

Well it kind of makes a little sense Aang would spend most time with Tenzin, seeing as how Tenzin was the only other airbender other then Aang at the time Probably wanted to teach him what he knew. Doesnt mean he didnt love his other his other kids too.. just a matter of priority.

  • Steven Lee

:( I don’t like this idea of aang picking favorites, (I’M NOT ASSUMING) but if he is I don’t like that part. The best case is that he’s doing the best to train the only other airbender.

  • SADFACE!

it says i cant watch it in my location??

  • SADFACE!

oo and if you want to watch book 2 episode 1 and 2 for free

this is the place and you can watch anything that’s anime to

    • Kyle Edgecomb

Yeah i go there all the time

    • Kyle Edgecomb

Yeah i go there all the time

  • Engrishdup
  • george

Man, I thought it was a shame Tenzin didn’t get along with his siblings, but it just got extra sad, and I suddenly feel more sorry for Bumi and Kya.

  • chewgum

I haven’t understanded well. But eska, is Bolin’s girlfriend or he’s eska’s slave?

    • Muggle

      Yes. :D

      • chewgum

        what yes?

        • Muggle

That was the joke. When Bolin asked if Eska wanted him to be her boyfriend or her slave, she just said “yes.” It’s a non-answer that pretty much says he’s both.
