A few months back, IGN did an interview with Mike and Bryan in which we learned that a specific Book 2 episode would deal with the origin of the Avatar. Many people, including myself, speculated that we’d probably get a look at the first Avatar – the one who started it all. Bryan recently teased that we’d get more information on the topic at Comic-Con, but that didn’t stop him and Mike from releasing a few teasers regarding the topic themselves. This is the ultimate of teases, in my opinion.
Mike and Bryan have officially released the name of the very first Avatar as well as a picture of his face. On top of that, they released the episode titles of the two episodes the first Avatar will be in.
The name of the first Avatar is Wan and a picture of him can be seen below:
Sometime during the course of Book 2, Wan will appear in two episodes titled Beginning 1 and Beginning 2. Wan’s story will take place 10,000 years before Korra’s time and it will depict him as he attempts to make peace between Spirits and Humans. His journey ultimately results in him becoming the first Avatar.
It has been noted that in order to create Wan’s world in Book 2, Mike and Bryan drew inspiration from ancient and traditional East Asian ink wash paintings and woodblock prints to create the environments, color palettes, and stylizations of the elements.
Mike and Bryan have also stated that we’ll get more information on this at Comic-Con tomorrow. This panel just keeps getting better and better.
