Nickelodeon Refuses to Release Clip of Book 2 but Synopsis of Clip is Now Available

When Nickelodeon used their Animation Press Event yesterday to show a clip of Book 2 to the media, I fully expected a source such as IGN to post about the clip as soon as they got the chance. You’ll be happy to know that IGN did in fact write about the clip, and the article does have some interesting Book 2 information to go over.

Unfortunately, the article did not have any sort of embedded clip in it. Instead we received a full synopsis of the clip we heard about yesterday. At the end of the synopsis, we were given information that most of us probably expected: Nickelodeon has chosen not to release the clip to the public.

At this point, I just don’t understand Nickelodeon any more. I’m sure if you asked executives why they’ve decided to keep the clip in their vault, they’ll tell you it’s because the clip isn’t finalized. They’ll say the animation on the clip isn’t complete. They wouldn’t be lying either, but according to IGN, the clip looked pretty darn good.

Why not just post it on the internet, is it really that much trouble?

But whatever, I’ll wait. I’m so used to it at this point. Anyways, here is the synopsis of the clip directly from IGN:

The sequence we saw found Korra battling one of these spirits, initially just seen as dark tentacles, surrounded by a purple energy, coming out of the ground on a hillside. Korra asks, “Spirit, why are you so angry? What have we done to offend you?” only for the tentacles to violently knock her aside, as they do to anyone else who attempts to help her, including Tenzin and an adult, male Water Tribe member I didn’t recognize at a glance.

Then, the full octopus-like creature rises out of the ground, and begins moving down the hill, utlimately crashing through a fence into a carnival being held, as Korra pursues it. On the offense, Korra shoots the creature with fireballs and begins to get the upper hand, but she is suddenly grabbed by one of its tentacles, and smashed down into the ground. And… we cut to black, for now.

Besides the unfortunate fact that this author does not know how to spell “ultimately”, this synopsis makes Book 2 sound really exciting. Hopefully we get some more visual information in the near future.

  • Batman

Can we assume that the water tribe guy is either Verick or Unalaq?

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

      Could be anyone, really.

  • Chrispix

The level of my disappointment is nearing the time I felt following The Last Airbender Movie. Don’t want to feel THAT suicidal again, now do we?

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

Ugh…Don’t even remind me about THAT time.

  • Jonas

Keval, why did you stop using those screenshots in your header? I really enjoyed them and made it easy at first glance to see if there was a new post! Or is it just my browser that is making fun of me? :P

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

Google sent me a notice saying that they were beginning to slow down the site a great deal. I don’t want to bore you with the technicalities of it, but they recommended either re-doing all the images or just removing them all together.

Sorry if they enjoyed them, but this will be better in the long run for users.

      • daniel yefru

i noticed the clip could bethe clip from the comic con but i realized that she didnt go into the avatar state

        • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

          I thought the same thing.

  • Filmeditor16

I’m with you at this point. If they say Book 2 will debut in late 2013, then whatever. I’ll believe it when I see it. I just don’t have much faith in the Nickelodeon PR department as well as the executives. Could they not spare this clip after 11 months? If its good enough to be shown to the press, why not its loyal fanbase?
Hopefully we will get a trailer or a date before summer is over. The end of summer is my new benchmark. If nothing is released after that, then I’ll move it up to my freaking death bed.
Btw I had to take down and re upload the video I posted a link to yesterday due to spelling errors… Haha…
You don’t have to watch it again but I’m just gonna leave it here… http://youtu.be/o_Qa4NdTp0s

    • Michael Jones

LoK Book 2 will probably be fall 2013 (at this point).

  • MitchGunner

if they aren’t finished with the animation, then… well… that’s just ridiculous… I have almost completely lost faith in the hopes of a summer release for book 2… I fell like ranting but I know it will get me nowhere… I’ve said this time and time again and meant it 100%, but this time I mean it 110% when I say THIS WAIT FOR BOOK TWO SUCKS!

  • bob515

at this point i would be happy with the release date of the release date of the release date

  • josh

fuck nickelodeon. I didn’t really care for the synopsis either. That urks me with the whole tenzin being an adult member of the water tribe that he didnt recognize. My hopes are seriously down. I am about to just forget about LOK, because it’s breaking my heart getting all the bad news, and then not hearing anything at all. nickelodeon, is not giving us anything korra and its so depressing. I just don’t want to deal with it anymore. I think I’m going to break up with the fandom… It’s not you, it’s me… and this whole nickelodeon thing. we can still be friends, but this silence that we have is killing me. I just think maybe we should see other people for a while. date some other shows, I just don’t know when you will be around anymore, or when you are coming back… i will always love you korra, but, this just isn’t working……… :(

    • Derrick

Well if you look more closely at the sentence, it actually says ” including Tenzin AND an adult, male water tribe member I didn’t recognize at first glance.” So he knows that tenzin is not a water tribe member. He was probably referring to one of the new water tribe members that are going to be introduced in book 2. But yeah i can definitely understand your irritation with nickelodeon and lack of any new korra news. Its just getting to the point that you just might want to give up. lol

      • josh

Yeah I see it now, he must be talking about the water tribe chief. I am still just disgusted with the hold out on korra. The way I see it, Korra should be out, no excuses. If it’s because the animation takes so long, then it should have been green lit a long mofo time ago, so that this would not happen. It’s not like we are even saying “Hey, we want season two.” no no no, we are simply asking for the SECOND HALF of season one… I have never heard of anything like this in the history of television. What makes it even worse, is that Avatar has been giving as much as possible like comics and insight into the creative process, but nick just is like whatever. Even worse, they simple refuse to acknowledge how bad they are fucking the fandom over. It’s like they think by ignoring it, and ignoring Korra, that it’s just gonna go away. But we are still here, and most of us are pretty fucking pissed off, or even given up all together. I am scared for the release of book two of korra. Nick of all people should know how fickle they’re watchers are, I worried when it finally does premier, it won’t get the ratings that it would have and be passed of as another yeah yeah nick show. I wish there was someway to get back at them, or simply just let them know how fucked up what they are doing is.

        • Derrick

Yeah that’s been one of my biggest fears too. I understand that animation is a long process. I’m actually a pretty good artist and I’ve taken classes and everything and drawing takes a LONG time especially if you want it to look perfect. But unfortunately I still don’t understand why nick won’t release any news, updates, or hints to their audience about book 2. Yes I know that nick has to show their work to the advertisers first so they can get money, but what difference will that make if the audience dosen’t know about or watch the book 2 premiere? And then like you said, the ratings will slip because there’s a good portion of avatar fans who don’t even know about book 2 due to NO info! Which then might lead to nickelodeon canceling Korra because they’re not getting a lot of money and THAT would be a travesty on all proportions! I don’t think I would ever be able to forgive nickelodeon.

          • josh

same here… I dont know what it is about atla and the legend of korra, but I have never loved a tv show so much, I guess it has something to do with the mixing of cultures, and the seriousness and relativity to real life. I am American but I grew up as a military brat so all my friends growing up were asain, by 15, I could read/write and speak fluent mandarin. I grew up in mostly asain culture, so without realizing it, I kind of adopted it. So when I saw this show which I thought was going to be another cheezy cartoon touch on all kinds of cultures, legends, all kinds of stuff from buddhism/daoism to hindu/sanskrit, I loved it cause its so much stuff that I grew up with. I was so excited when I found out that there was a sequel, a new avatar, and I just hope that nick does not mess it up.

          • Derrick

Yeah that’s what brought me too. Well that and the bending. When atla first came out I was 12 so most of cartoons I had seen by nick were used for comedy and when I saw the trailers and watched the first few episodes it was so different than what I was used to and so much better by the way. lol I just have a love/hate relationship with nick. I love that they were ones that green lighted the show therefore bringing this masterpiece to screen. I even like nick for green lighting korra but I just hate how they’re treating Korra, its most successful show right now, and the avatar fandom, but then again half the fandom doesn’t even know book 2 exist. But whatever, I guess the only thing I can do is hope that if Korra does air in late fall, nick will start advertising the show very soon.

  • JR

maybe we should start a letter sending campaign, just post nickelodeon headquarter’s address and tell everyone to send a physical letter. Nickelodeon is kind of neglecting their customers now..

We do we have to lose but 45 cents for postage.

    • Tumas

Let’s not be too hasty. After all, we always have to keep in mind that it’s already a good thing to have more Korra Books at all, compared to other companies that actually cancelled their good shows (like Cartoon Network and Disney). I’d hate to see a backlash on Nickelodeon’s part if fans are seen to be too obnoxious.

      • JR

I don’t think a show has ever been cancelled because too many people demanded it be aired. I feel the fanbase is getting smaller and that is pretty much nickelodeon’s fault. I think some nickelodeon executive is making bad decisions and we should help him/her make better decisions.

  • SarcasticAmon

Hey, it will come out when it comes out guys. It isnt like they can wave their wand and make it happen. I am a die hard avatar fan(except for that Last Airbender shit) and gotta say we have to be patient. Preoccupy yourselves with something else. Korra is simply used as a form of escapism(for most people anyways) and we are aggravated that we havent heard a damned word from prickelodeon. At the end of the day, all we can do is let go and move on.

Look up “hitler is lied to about legend of korra book 2″.. I made it to add some humor(and release pent up rage lol) to the korr fandom. Keep calm and DEAL WITH IT :D

  • JMA

I don’t understand this fan base anymore. Nick said season two will be out in the fall earlier this year. They probably meant Book 2. So why are you grasping at straws? Ad FYI, NIck is a corporation designed to make money. Every show they air is designed to get them advertisement money. So what’s happening is they probably don’t have a solid set of shows for the fall so they moved it. Plus, according to the crews’ tumblrs, they’re still not finished.

Also Nick has done “this” with a good handful of their shows.

And give the creators and animators a break too. I takes 9-10 ,month to do an episode HANDDRAWN. Heck Disney closed down their hand-drawn movie studio because it took too long.

    • andrew

can i have links to the crews tumblrs?

  • CS

I sounds like the beginning of the first part of book 2 where she is fighting the evil spirit at northern water tribe.

  • Kyle Edgecomb

I honeslty dont think fans can wait until comic con, we need some info NOW on the status of the series, a trailer, an airdate, COME ON NICK!!!!

  • Kyle Edgecomb

I swear, the team better be working on the Book 3 animation as we speak as I dont want to have another massive long wait for Book 3 after Book 2 ends……COME ON NICK!!!!!!

  • Desna

animation of book 3 has already started, they are finishing up and polish book 2 wich has 14 episodes / 14weeks so i dont think the wait for book 3 will take a very long time, sorry for my bad english

  • daniel yefru

we have the comic con to look forward to

  • JTL

Some of you fans ought to calm the hell down. I enjoy Atla and LoK as much as another fan, but this show will be released when it will be released. Learn to preoccupy yourselves for the time being, seriously… go read a book or something.

    • Michael Jones

      Amen.

  • Michael Jones

I’ve been following this page for news every so often. A few things need to be said.
    1) On a positive side – Great coverage
    BUT…
    2) Nickelodeon doesn’t owe any of you jack. Quit acting like spoiled little brats who think they DESERVE the show. It’s their intellectual property. Their product.
    3) Get a life. There’s more to this world than these petty and perpetual complaints against Nickelodeon.
It’d be hilarious at this point for them to cancel the show. That’d shut you up real quick.
    Just food for thought. :D

    • michael jones is a ratard

Cancel the show . . . because ppl are complaining . . that is the stupidest shit i have ever heard i wish i knew you in real life so i could kirbstomp your retarded ass

      • Michael Jones

I highly doubt you could *curb stomp a U.S. Marine. Especially since you don’t even know how to spell the word “Curb”. Your slogan should be Semper Stolidus.

      • Michael Jones

Camp Lejeune is easy to find, you know. If you wanna take a shot.

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

When you say “Get a Life”, is that a shot at me, or the community? Because I think I’ve been fairly nice towards Nickelodeon as of late.

      • Michael Jones

Community in general; no one in particular.

  • dudes

its sad, cause video games and movies tell u their release date a year in advance, if these guys set a date from last year, it would have been out by now.

    NEWS FROM BRYAN:

They’re working on ALL of the books. No wonder why it’s taking so long and no one’s been updating. They’re working on Book 2, 3 & 4. I assume they’re all in different stages of production.

    That is BRUTAL.
