Nickelodeon UK’s Premiere of The Legend of Korra Delayed 2 Months

I’m not quite sure how many Avatar Fans from the UK read this blog, but since we’re hitting a serious dry spell in any kind of Avatar related news, I thought I’d throw some Nickelodeon UK news in the mix. While all the folks in the United States have been waiting for Book 2 over the past year, the folks in the UK have been waiting for the premiere of Book 1. Unbelievable, I know, but I’m fairly sure many Avatar fans in the UK have forgotten about the TV premiere and decided to watch Book 1 on the internet. If not, I commend each and every fan from the UK who has stuck it out thus far.

Anyways, as most of you probably know, Book 1 of The Legend of Korra was supposed to air during the month of May in the UK. Many fans from America misread the news and proclaimed that Book 2 would premiere in May.

Nope. Sorry. That’s how rumors start.

Based on the news, you’d probably think that Book 1 isn’t too far off for the UK. Well, that was the reality until just recently. Nickelodeon UK has just confirmed that the premiere of Book 1 will be delayed until July 7th.

I’m sure most of you are thinking about giving Nickelodeon UK the bird right now, but from what I’ve heard, Nickelodeon UK is actually much better with its fans than Nickelodeon (USA). They actually reach out to their fan base and communicate with them.

Sorry about that UK Fans. Just understand that no matter how frustrated you may be with Nickelodeon UK at this point, know that you’re in good hands. Everything will pull through in the end.

  • MitchGunner

I hope this doesn’t mean that Book 2’s release will be later than expected… It better be released in the summer.

  • Filmeditor16

It’s May. I just thougt I would point that out for both myself and others. New Legend of Korra episodes now seem like a faded dream, but how could it not? It’s been months. I completly understand that Korra is not an overnight process, and that they were not that far into work on Book 2 when Book 1 ended. But it seems really drawn out right now. I tweeted Nick last Friday and they replied back and stated they were still working on the episodes. I think they aren’t telling the truth, it’s been 11 months, it’s getting old now. They don’t want to reveal that it’s finished and they havent put it in their schedule because we would totally be on their ass if they said that. Notice Bryke has been silent as of late? There is something missing. I’m sorry I’m just so tired of waiting…

    • daniel yefru

ikr i was sooo impresssed by the animation progress in july i was thinking book 2 will be reasled anytime soon in early 2013 and januaray will have the trailer realsed but nope left in the dark age of avatar left to rotten :(

Hello Keval. I was wondering if you could hear out my proposition: I’ve noticed it’s probably been quite challenging to come up with new articles so often with the lack of new information lately, and the people who keep up with your blog definitely appreciate ANY new article that you post, even if it pertains to the UK.

In the past I have posted a couple of reviews as comments on this blog, to which other commenters responded positively, and to which I was humbled to get support. My idea is that, once in a while, when you have temporarily run dry of new Avatar information or are in the middle of preparing to post a new article, you could create an article for one of my reviews. I’m not completely sure how it would work, however. If there’s a way I can send you a review via email (or another way) and you can post it word for word as an article, that would be fine.
I’m clearly not expecting you to go along with the idea, but I figured it could be mutually beneficial to the both of us in that you can have more articles up u up more quickly and I can get my reviews “out there.” If you can reply to my comment anytime soon w, then that would be cool. thanks.

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

You know it’s funny because I was sort of thinking the same thing a few days ago. I was thinking that it would probably be a good idea to feature some of your reviews in the downtime on really anything. It’s generated a lot of conversation and I think the readers have responded well to them

That being said, do you think you could send me a copy of your Book 1 review? You can edit it to make it a a bit longer if you’d like and update it however you wish. Just email it to me (contact.legendofkorra@gmail.com) and I’ll publish is whenever there’s some downtime.

      • MitchGunner

Awesome. Shouldn’t be an issue. If I come up with any new reviews or if you want me to send you any older ones (like Book 1), I’ll send them.

        • jojsh

would be cool to see reviews, I would be curious to know what you think of the search part 1. I know I liked it alot, i was actually really suprised how good it was compared to the promise. I actually didn’t even mind that it was a comic book and not a cartoon. I can’t wait for part two… but hey at least I know when the frick that is coming out *scoff*

      • MitchGunner

I’ll send my Book 1 review to you tomorrow along with some other “throw away or keep” reviews from other Avatar related things. I’m assuming you would like only Avatar related reviews… is that correct?

        • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

          Yes, only Avatar reviews.

      • Anime_Fr34k

Keep the page updated with anything interesting for the fans and it will all flow from there.

  • daniel yefru

why do you think nickuk has the good rigth to delay it

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

Probably some scheduling conflict. I’m not entirely sure, but that’s probably a valid reason.

      • daniel yefru

well i guess they must have a very better reason the usa nick

  • Sarika

screw waiting for LOK to come out in the UK, i finished the whole series in one night (i was severely jetlagged) last August, after i’d finished ATLA on Netlfix. i’m waiting for Book 2 now. i wouldn’t even mind so much if a release date was announced but it hasn’t been. and i know the delay means it will be better but i just want some kind of news and communication!

to quote “Give” by Simon Armitage: “it’s not as if i’m holding out for frankincense or myrrh, just change.”

  • Kyle Edgecomb

I live in UK, but I just watched Book 1 online, and will do the same for Book 2. But I wish Book 2 would hurry up…I’m dying to see what happens :-/

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

I’ll try to upload Book 2 ASAP when it premieres.

  • josh

I emphatically agree with filmeditor16… I just can’t in any form understand what the
hell they are doing. I believe that Nickelodeon is lying to korra fans,
and I believe that Mike D. and Bryan K. are covering up for
Nickelodeon’s screw up just like they didn’t bash M. Night Shyamalan for
completely ruining “The Last Airbender” and screwing up any chance that
ATLA had at a multi-movie franchise. I mean that movie was terrible and
Mike and Bryan didn’t express one bad notion towards the movie or
Shyamalan. They just ate that shit sandwich. Now, Nickelodeon is handing them another tasty shit sandwich, and they are just going to suck it up and eat it. Any idiot can plainly see that something is very wrong with nickelodeon, and somehow I know that nickUK delaying a book of korra that is already done and has been out in the U.S. for over a year now, has something to do with nickUSA’s fucked up plan to release book 2 in the U.S. Nick fucked up really bad somewhere and are now trying to cover it up by pretending nothing is wrong and they are not doing anything wrong by ignoring the korra fandom.

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval
      • josh

yeah, of course they didn’t like it, I could tell by the few comments they made about the movie, which were completely indifferent to whether it sucked or not that there was shit stuck in their teeth from anice warm gooey shit sandwhich. that is cool that he told fans what bryan and mike actually thought of the movie. But just like he said, they never would comment publicly about what they actually thought of the movie. they were good sports for suckin that crap down… too good a sports. If I were them I would have been so pissed at m. night. they had good actors (yes even nicola peltz, katara, is a good actress) but that dialogue was so horrible! and everyone that sticks up for that movie says “well of course its live action, its not gonna be exactly like the cartoon”. Well I say fuck that, If M. night was goona steal plot lines and episodes from the cartoon, he should not have changed and half assed them like they were quick story points and fill ins. its like the whole movie was just a fill in to get to the 20 minute northern water tribe climax. I can even handle the fact that aang or uuuung didn’t turn into the ocean spirit and woop the firebenders ass, that ending scene was cool, if the rest of the movie was like that, i would have liked it. it was emotional, with cool score, and effects. and for once the bending didnt suck. I was even able to believe uuuungs character for that couple minutes. that just infuriates me. i believe that the reason the actors were so bad in that movie was because they were struggling to figure out where in the story they actually were. the whole first hour of that movie was a montage. anyways, im gonna stop bitching about it now. I just hate nickelodeon so bad for leaving us in the dark, and I hate them even more for giving m. night the directors spot for that movie. a fucking monkey could have done a better job than that hour and twenty minute piece of shit. (1 HOUR and 20 MINUTES!!!!!) wtf!! with that budget and more than 20 episodes worth of cartoon material, he couldn’t have made it 2 hours or even 1:30?!

        • MitchGunner

I completely agree with you except for what you said about the Northern Water Tribe portion of the movie being decent. I think your giving it a little undeserving credit because that part of the movie sucked too. Besides that I laughed to myself reading your comment because of how identical it is to my opinion… haha, you have good taste in hating that garbage movie!

          • josh

haha why thank you. I still think the whole water tribe part sucked too, especially master paku. I mean did you actually look at that water bending? I about died at how bad it was. It’s supposed to be based on taiji, which is very fluent and elegant, but they looked like retarded people trying to dance liquid. I was more specifically referring to just the wave part which, i still think the cartoon version is way better, i just meant if more of the movie showed bending as powerful as that scene, the movie could have had a chance. and noah ringer is actually the perfect person to play uuuung. if m. night would have just let noah be himself, uuung would have been a cool character. but you know m. night had to make it with “a twist” let’s make him emo uuuung. But noah is a really accomplished martial artist, and for his age, his bagua zhang is awsome, He looks as though he’s been doing bagua zhang all his life. I am a practitioner of wing chun, and taiji, and i have studied bagua zhang for a few years now, and from experience i can tell you his form is flawless. but anyway, i didnt mean to give the movie undeserved credit, i just meant from a non bias point of view (i saw the movie before the cartoon, which almost made me not want to see the cartoon), if wave scene, minus katara’s part was pretty impressive.

          • MitchGunner

No, I see where your coming from and yes the wave part was definitely the best bending in the movie. And I’m glad that the movie didn’t prevent you from watching the cartoon because the cartoon is phenomenal!

          • josh

yes definately, it’s my favorite show period. I was so reluctant to watch the cartoon because I didn’t know the movie was based on the cartoon, i thought it was the other way around. I actually just watched it on a whim one night, and then spent the next two days watching all three seasons back to back, i couldn’t stop. The prospect of a live movie from the cartoon is just gold, or at least it’s supposed to be. that upsets me so much that there will be no second and third movie. M. Night Shyamalan ruined what should have been the pinnacle of cartoon/comics going to live action movies. I guess what kills me the most is we will never see Toph come to life. She is my favorite character by far, and it is so cool in the cartoon that they picked chu gar for her bending style (southern praying mantis, not to be confused with seven star praying mantis/northern P.M./tanglangquan). although, I it makes me sick to think what M. Night might have done to Toph.

          • Anime_Fr34k

I did the same as you did. I watched the entire series non stop the went to the first book of LoK and it all flowed. movies are never better than book counterparts.

          • josh

i know, never, I guess after seeing the cartoon after the movie, I just thought to myself, ‘this cartoon is like the best show ever written, how could they do that to the movie?” and then like you I was looking up an episode of atla on youtube, and one of the icons on the side, I saw something about korra, i thought it was a whole different thing at first, but then i looked at the picture and realized she looked similar to katara, like katara a little older, and i freaked the hell out omg there is another series??? yes!!!!!

        • daniel yefru

agreed and one shit i hate so much is that iroh is the ONLY one that can acutally firebend not even the avatar uung cant do it

          • josh

lol, i know, that killed the movie so bad, the firebenders werent even that powerful, and whats even funnier didnt master paku make a big point about everybody putting out there fires so that the firebenders would not have a source of what? FIRE. and what did everybody in the northern water tribe NOT DO?! PUT OUT THE FIRES! another big show point for the cartoon was that waterbending was taiji, earthbending was hung gar (or chu gar for toph), airbending was bagua, and firebending was shaolin. other than bagua, the movie completely disregarded the martial arts. and the bagua was only because noah, despite the bad movie intro, is a really good martial artist.

        • http://twitter.com/TheloveMMM Michelle M.

The only part I didn’t like about the movie was Sokka and Yue’s relationship. Also, Sokka’s actor could have been better. But other than that (besides the pronunciations) I loved it!! It’s one of my favorite movies <3

          • josh

That’s totally cool too, I respect that. You are right about sokka and yue, they made it all akward, but then again it was akward in the cartoon too. and seychelle gabriel is a good actress, but of course they made her character all tart. anyways, i respect people’s opinion that liked that movie, I just hate when people stick up for it like “oh it was just different from the cartton, live action wont be the same.” cause ya know? thats not the case, the movie was exactly like the cartoon, it was just really horribly interpreted and arranged. It’s like when I take a song or a composition, and arrange it for piano or another instrument, I work with what I have, and make the best possible version of it, if not make it better for respect of the original. I don’t blurt out random notes, and generically change it because it is too difficult and time consuming to make it beautiful. I guess to sum it up, I just think he should have made the movie just as good as the cartoon, or even better or not have done it at all. That is kind of the rule of thumb when it comes to reinterpreting other people’s art and ideas.

      • chris

to be honest, who actually liked it, no one, it was awful the storyline of the movie was not in the correct order to the cartoon and the acting, i mean wow i thought my eye were bleeding at one point but the worst of all the guy who played sokka killed it

  • DunbansBiggestFanForever

It honestly feels like The Legend of Korra as a franchise is just….gone. The show could’ve been cancelled and I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

  • DunbansBiggestFanForever

but I’m still gonna wait on it. Thanks for putting up with us, Keval.

  • bob515

maybe the delay is so book1 release in the uk coincides with book 2 premiere here. Seems stupid to do it that way but would anyone be surprised if that turned out to be the case?

  • Lindsay

Forget about Book 2 being released in late summer or fall. I’m counting on winter..

  • Aang

I’m from the UK, and I watched Book 1 online from the internet like a year ago so this doesnt bother me a whole lot. It’s typical Nickelodeon f*ckery. I feel soooo sorry for the offline fandom though.

  • josh

Hey keval here is some better news, and this one isn’t bs leaked by bs people either. It turns out that post about them being almost done and on the last part of sound recording was even more further along than we even knew. Turns out that a week ago they were finishing up the foley (last part of the extra sound effects) for book 2 which means the book is either now completely finished, or is within a week of being finished… check it out.

    http://www.idigitaltimes.com/articles/16939/20130423/legend-korra-season-2-release-date-avatar.htm

    • josh

pshh, turns out they got the information from here hahahaha lol. jesus h christ. I didn’t know they were working on foley though, if that is the case, they are, without a doubt, reaching for that finishing tape. they are not just on the home stretch, they are crossing the finish line.

  • Firnen

What’s with the “Legend of Korra: Book 1 ArtBook”? Bryan posted about it on his tumblr.

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

It’s just the cover for the Art of the Animated Series book.

  • Cameron McCowan

Nickolodeon is so terrible at dealing with older teen and adult audiences, its like they are trying to encourage piracy

  • daniel yefru

no traIiler……comning late summer i guess

  • daniel yefru

even if we get a trailer it may not give a realse date maybe it will say comning soon

This is a such a poor showing from Nickelodeon. I just hope the blu-ray and soundtrack releases come quickly after broadcast!

  • Redcoat

I have been looking forward to this for ages and to be honest decided to just forget.
I dont mind book 1 coming out this (insultingly) late in the UK, so long as we dont receive book 2 a year after the US as well.
With many internet sources making this available online, Nick UK will show worse viewing figures than the US by contrast simply due to the number of UK fans that will already have found places to watch it.
Its a shame that despite many industries working to global, or near as can be, release (the gaming industry for example) things like this are still common, leaving fans out in the cold just because they are in the wrong region.
Ah well, its (hopefully) out in Blighty now, so time to watch. :-)

    • varsas

Despite the likely poorer viewing figures I hope the sales of the DVDs and BRs will show Nick UK that there is an audience and that we deserve to see new seasons without delays!

      • Pete Baldwin

The sad fact is that people probably won’t buy the DVD because they already have a copy… As soon as I get a DVD, I burn it onto my computer and go from there. I regularly watch TV shows and then buy the DVDs but if I’ve already got it on my computer what’s the point other than to clutter up my shelves?

        • varsas

I will sometimes rip DVDs too but the point of buying is to show support for the show. Unfortunately broadcasters can only go by hard numbers, so subscribers to their channels, sales of DVDs/Blu-rays/Downloads e.g. via iTunes and sales of merchandise.

  • Amii

Sorry but thats still NO excuse, we’ve waited FAR Too long and I’ve just watched the season online and it was amazing. No way I’m going to wait for UK to catch up, I’m soo sick of this happening. UK always gets delayed e.g Supernatura UK fans were a year behind too for the season. I seriouslyyy hope someone will upload season two online for us fans:/ It will mean alot to us <3

    • varsas

As a fan I hope you’re still going to buy a copy?

      • chameleon83

Maybe the creators should think about things like that before screwing over fans from outside the US.

It may not justify piracy but it certainly accounts for a lot of it.

        • varsas

Do you really think the creators want to delay the broadcast of the show? I think your problem is really with the network and you’re right that it doesn’t help them with the issue of piracy. Either way as a true fan it should not affect whether a legitimate copy of the show is bought.

          • chameleon83

Perhaps it is the networks fault but then the creators should push harder to stop it. It’s their content after all and their fans that suffer.

There is no reason they can’t do simultaneous releases or very close to it.

It’s an old way of thinking and does encourage piracy but also effects TV channels in this country and others because when they eventually do get the shows ratings aren’t as good.

There is evidence to support this as some shows like GoT, Sanctuary and a few others have had close releases and low piracy figures.

Give the people what they want, when they want and they’ll thank you. Don’t and they’ll find another way.

You can’t even get Book 1 of Korra on Blu Ray in the UK only imported via Amazon. This happens quite a lot actually and has done historically. The only difference is it’s easier to find out about now.

          • varsas

Nickelodeon commissioned the show and own the copyright so the creators have no say on the matter; would you aspect being told what to do by an employee?

GoT actually proves the point that piracy occurs even with close broadcasts; it’s the most pirated show.

I do think broadcasters do need to be smarter about distribution. I’m just as frustrated as any other fan and will watch online but will also support the show properly by buying it.

It’s not finished showing in the UK so the DVD and BR releases won’t occur until after the finale. I’ve seen the former available for preorder but not the latter so I’ve actually been nagging nickelodeon uk a out it without reply so far.

          • chameleon83

I’m well aware how the system works but as I say if they were more thoughtful about their broadcasting then these things wouldn’t happen and if the creator of the show pointed out that their fans outside the US were not pleased then they may well listen.

There have been plenty of shows that have moved networks because of disagreements between network and creator.

          • varsas

As you say, there have been shows that have moved but that’s only possible of the production company own the show and are selling it to the network. This show is owned wholly by the network.

  • Pete Baldwin

Amazing that they’d think delaying it this long would make sense when the internet exists. As everyone has already watched it now, I hope Nickelodeon understand that the low viewing figures they’ll get for what is essentially a repeat (not a Premiere!) doesn’t represent how many people will actually watch if you show it within a reasonable time of the US premiere. We always get stuff late but I think most people are happy to wait a few months. Do you honestly expect people to wait more than a year when the whole series is just a click away!?

    • varsas

It is stupid especially since it’s a show they produce but I doubt very much that they will take illegal downloads into account when looking at viewing figures. Fans can only change their minds by showing some real support with money.
