Book 1 of The Legend of Korra’s Soundtrack Available for Pre-Order

Posted on June 8th, 2013 by Keval

Earlier today, Amazon published a product page for Book 1 of The Legend of Korra’s official soundtrack. According to Amazon, Book 1’s soundtrack will be available on July 16th, but it is currently available for pre-order. The fact that a soundtrack in itself was announced should be no surprise at this point – any announcement labeled as “exciting news” from the Track Team is going to be music-related. What is surprising, however, is that a soundtrack was released for The Legend of Korra rather than The Last Airbender. Let me explain…

I started covering this topic back in January, and based on what I was hearing at the time, 2013 looked to be the year for Nickelodeon to release The Last Airbender’s soundtrack. Back in December, someone tweeted Jeremy Zuckerman (member of the Track Team) asking whether or not they should expect a soundtrack for The Last Airbender. Jeremy replied by saying that 2013 was looking promising.

Someone then went on to tweet Jeremy several weeks later asking if they should expect a Legend of Korra soundtrack soon. Jeremy replied saying that it was looking good.

Book 2 of The Legend of Korra to be Darker, Marketing Concepts in the Works

Posted on June 6th, 2013 by Keval

Despite the fact that Nickelodeon has been stingy when it comes to releasing Book 2 news, the fandom is no longer completely in the dark. My source who is currently in contact with someone connected to The Legend of Korra recently emailed me to relay all that he’s learned since he last updated me. In the last update, we learned that production on Book 2 was almost complete. We also learned that once production was completed, marketing would begin. Today my source explained to me that the person he is on contact with is not necessarily connected with The Legend of Korra, rather he works in marketing and knows all about the production and marketing of Book 2.

According to my source, the person connected to marketing had a chance to look at some of the marketing concepts connected with Book 2. By the looks of the marketing concepts, Book 2 appears to be even darker than Book 1. This is interesting because as The Last Airbender progressed, it too got darker. It looks like Mike and Bryan are taking a similar approach with The Legend of Korra.

The last bit of news my source shared with me is probably the most exciting.

Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Promise Books 1-3 Review

Posted on June 2nd, 2013 by Keval

This review was written by Wyatt (Mitch Gunner). Wyatt also reviewed Book 1 of The Legend of Korra.

The Promise is a Dark Horse comic book series set in the events following the Book 3 finale of the original television series. I’m not a fan of comic books, though I never really gave them much of a chance, so the only reasons I decided to read The Promise was because of my love for the show and my anticipation for Book 2 of The Legend of Korra. I was both pleasantly surprised and expectedly unimpressed with some of its qualities. Hopefully, this review will help support my opinion…

Story:

Storytelling has always been a specialty of the Avatar series, as it provides complex and meaningful themes, and captures the realities of a world at war, all while incorporating an incredibly dense mythos comparable to that of Star Wars. Unfortunately, The Promise doesn’t always stay true to these aspects and instead focuses on what seems like filler material that never made it into the original series. As negative as that sounds, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. A lot of the filler material in The Last Airbender is used to develop characters in interesting ways, which The Promise actually takes advantage of.

Basically, there are a few different story arcs occurring: Aang and Katara attempting to enforce the “Harmony Restoration Movement,” oddly named by Sokka, then there’s Toph, with Sokka’s assistance, training a group of kids to metal-bend, and finally, Zuko struggling not to follow in his father’s footsteps as Firelord. The greater of the three is definitely Zuko’s arc which most resembles The Last Airbender and possesses the best dialogue and drama in The Promise.

Legend of Korra Column: Waiting for Book 2, Free Version of The Last Airbender’s Soundtrack and General Sophomoric Banter

Posted on May 30th, 2013 by Keval

We haven’t really gotten much of anything Legend of Korra related for some time now. Sure, we received some hints about potential news in the future, but how many times has that type of news actually panned out in our favor? I’m still remaining optimistic, but my expectations are set very low. If your expectations are currently bursting through the ceiling, my suggestion would be to bring it down several hundred notches just so you don’t blow your top if the news turns out to be an announcement for a Bolin & Mako duel costume pack.

Not that I wouldn’t love to go trick-or-treating this year as Mako for Halloween, but it’s fairly obvious that the only thing this fandom cares about is Book 2 news. Sure, an announcement for The Last Airbender’s soundtrack would be phenomenal, but let me remind you that the soundtrack has been available for download for some time now.

Piracy is inevitable; I’ve had this download link in my arsenal for some time now, and I always thought it would be unethical to just release it to the entire fandom. But I was doing some thinking today and I realized that I had already released all of Book 1 on this blog for free; releasing a soundtrack that’s about 5 years old wouldn’t hurt, right?

That being said, I give you the download to the unofficial, pirated, and illegally obtained version of the Avatar: The Last Airbender soundtrack.

I understand that doing illegal things can be fun stuff, but supporting this television show is more important than you think. The reason why The Legend of Korra was picked up in the first place is because Avatar: The Last Airbender was so unbelievably successful in all areas. Avatar proved to be a gold mine for Nickelodeon; so naturally, they wanted to run with it a little longer. Fortunately for us, we have Mike and Bryan working on The Legend of Korra – not some idiotic movie studio that’s only goal is to make sixteen parts to a movie and watch the dolla’ bills roll.

Don’t Expect Book 2 News in June – Expect an Announcement for Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Soundtrack

Posted on May 27th, 2013 by Keval

A little over a week ago, the Track Team came out and announced that some “exciting news” would be coming soon. Soon after that, the Track Team went into a bit more detail and announced that fans should expect the news in early June. At a first glance, most would probably assume that we’d be getting Book 2 news in June. But if you really think about it, would receiving Book 2 news in June make any sense? To be quite frank, no, receiving Book 2 news in June would make little to no sense at all.

The reason why I say this is because as of now, there are really only two things this fandom is waiting for – a release date and trailer. With Comic-Con coming this July, it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that we’ll be getting both a release date and trailer during the convention. If this really is the case and Nickelodeon is saving these two announcements for Comic-Con, what type of Book 2 news should we expect to hear in June?

We could receive some sort plot details in regards to Book 2, but my gut tells me that they’d save that information for Comic-Con too. After all, wouldn’t it be perfect if Comic-Con showed us a trailer, announced the release date, then talked more about Book 2’s plot? That’s the dream scenario that could very well become a possibility in July.
