Picture of Lin Beifong from Book 3 of the Legend of Korra Released

Just as I mentioned in my last post regarding the Book 3 offseason, Bryan Konietzko has taken to Tumblr to update us fans on the current status of Book 3. As stated numerous times, Book 3 will focus much more on Lin Beifong and her family. To demonstrate the importance of Lin in Book 3, Bryan uploaded a picture from Book 3 depicting Lin Beifong with sweat running down her face. I’ve already heard numerous jokes regarding the “sweat” this morning, and if you can’t find anything funny about it, disregard the joke.

The picture depicts a seemingly fearful Lin Beifong awaking from her sleep in middle of the night. This type of expression would typically only paint the face of one who’s jolted out of bed from a nightmare. Perhaps she’s having nightmares about the Spirit-inhabited Republic City? Or perhaps her nightmares have more to do with her mysterious past?

Since the first 4 episodes of the season have been animated, I assume this scene is from one of those four episodes.

You can see the full-colored image of Lin below:

  • Ariana Moreno

I bet she’s awaking from a bad dream that she had. Probably a sign of a family flashback!!! I’m excited XD

    • Eliminator

Lin having a nightmare? That’s odd. Maybe she is still remembering the day Tenzin broke up with her. LOL! That “heart breaker” :D

      • Ariana Moreno

hahaha! maybe. But since her father isn’t in the picture, I was thinking maybe it had to do with him somehow…that’s the first thing that came to my mind. Or her mother Toph. she isn’t around anymore so maybe it has to do with her…who knows, but I’m ready to find out!

        • Eliminator

We dont know. Maybe Toph is still alive, Lin’s father has to be revealed, too. You remember Bumi, the earth King of Omashu? He lived over 110 years.

          • Ariana Moreno

            Hm, yeah. We’ll see

          • Kyle Edgecomb

I dont think lin is that old, im sure she will meet someone and have a child, also we still dont know if she had any siblings

          • Eliminator

She isn’t that young anymore, just look at her. Grey hair, scars… and her behavior –> she is old.

  • Professor Farnsworth

She just remembered how she was portrayed last season.
    Worst Nightmare Ever for Lin.
I bet she wishes it was just a dream.

    • Ariana Moreno

haha XD that’s funny, maybe :)

    • Eliminator

      Funny thought :D
I liked the scene, where Lin saved Raiko. Well, to be honest, I liked the whole episode, except the break up.

      • Kakashi

        me too

  • Paula

Lin!! My (other) favorite bad-a** female on the show. She better play more of a role in the next book, because she was NOT represented well in Book 2…..

    • Ariana Moreno

Which is exactly why they are gonna dedicate most of book 3 to her :)

      • Eliminator

I second that. I really liked Beifong, and Toph was one of my favorite characters in ATLA! Anyway, i hope they do not neglect Korra. She is still the most important person on the show / for me :)

        • Ariana Moreno

          You read my mind XD

  • Sibis

Lin had a dream of Bumi dancing in a thong to the song, “Sexy and I Know It”

Lin just now realizes that she is a Mako fan girl and threw her entire force under the Mako bus.

    M. Night has been green lighted to make a Legend of Korra movie.

Lin is secretly a professional wrestler.

Lin wakes up to nightmares of Sponge Bob and his demonic laughter.

Lin just saw the entire movie Akira in her dream.

    • Ariana Moreno

      hahahah! Very clever X)

      • Sibis

I have my expectations that M. Night may even improve it in some aspects.

Due to time constrains, he could scrap the Probending and romance. Focus on the Equalist plot and inequality.

Introduce Mako and Bolin around the Episode 3 story with the direction on quitting the criminal world. Bolin gets captured by the Equalist during one last job.

        • Eliminator

I like the romance plot, so i would be disappointed without that. Many fans loved pro bending. It was a nice idea to create rules and gameplay, really something new, Mike and Bryan introduced.

          • Sibis

TLA had pacing issues and LOK would suffer the same thing if the movie tried to put almost everything in.

The characters are not expected to be exactly like their cartoon counterpart.

If M. Night scraps the romance, that means Mako, Bolin, and Asami would be open to some actual development.

          • Ariana Moreno

it doesn’t even seem like he got anything done with the ATLA movie he already made XD

        • Ariana Moreno

Yeah, but first he must do a better job with the casting…I mean he made the whole fire nation based off of his nationality, he made sokka and katara look white, when they are obviously supposed to resemble native americans, since they are from the water tribe. They have dark skin and hair….make that connection? and I think he took a lot of out ATLA that made it good, and just rushed the whole thing. I’m sorry but I’d have to disagree about him making a movie with Korra. He would probably screw up a lot of the plot like he did with the ATLA movie he made. it was absolutely terrible! the characters weren’t accurate, the plot was watered down, and it was a mess. I mean the movie got terrible reviews. My mom also loves avatar and always liked to watch it with me and my sister, we showed her the movie to see what she thought, and she even fell asleep watching it! :D sorry, but the guy can’t make movies with Avatar

          • Sibis

Of course the ATLA script was watered down. That was a 20 episode season condensed into a few hours movie with cherry picked parts.

LOK would be better since it’s 12 episodes of material that was tighten down. It’s a lot easier to transfer to a movie than TLA was.

If M. Night kept his bending rules, then Probending wouldn’t work. The live version of that sport would be terrible anyway.

So that just leaves Korra learning Air Bending without Pro-bending and the Equalist plot.

          • Ariana Moreno

well, tell me how that would be interesting at all. I mean the equalist plot added a lot of spice to the series. It gave Korra more purpose. She was up against an awesome villain like Amon. Who gives a crap if she learned how to air bend. Yeah, it’s important for her as the avatar, but at least everything in book 1 added some entertainment and suspense. I don’t know. I fail to see how M.Night, the guy who can’t make crap for movies, would improve LOK any better from the way it is now

          • Sibis

M.Night would have to walk a fine line to avoid making LOK into The Dark Knight Rises clone.

          • Matthew

Sadly you are wrong on the Native American theory, the southern and northern water tribes seem to resemble the Inuit, sorry if you didn’t participate in Canadian history class,
Native Americans and Inuit do resemble each other slightly, I’m not 100% on this, but the Inuit are more closely related to the Japanese. But I fully agree that m. Night did a terrible job, he produced a couple of good movies, but that is all. If he touches the avatar series again, I will END him jk but I will do something well not evil, maybe just take his BENDING Away and tai chi his ass,

          • Ariana Moreno

hahah! XD well, i don’t mean literally native american, but i mean they look dark, and they have dark hair, and their clothing style and culture style resembles “Natives” in my opinion, so people who live in tribes.

        • Katie

Dude, a live action Amon would be the coolest thing ever. If he did make an LOK movie which frankly, I will send my lions after him if he does, I hope he does a good job on Amon’s mask instead of slacking off like the blue spirit mask.

    • Kyle Edgecomb

And whats wrong with Akira exactly?

      • Sibis

Genetic Bender project to weaponize bending. Goes out of control because they are trying to make their own artificial Avatar.

        • Kyle Edgecomb

That actually would sound like an awesome plot for a future avatar season….but it would have to be an avatar in the far future where technology is far more advanced then ours….the avatar vs a robot avatar…that would be…just…awesome

          • Sibis

Several Japanese anime stories like Akira will try some sort of weaponizing project with genetics and powers.

Now that the idea of genetics and slight mutations can give certain benders an edge or alternative bending methods.

Parents will be able to choose which bending their child could get.

A project to rapidly repopulate Air Benders.

Non-bender numbers could dwindle or the bender class gains a stronger stance in the world making non-benders a minority.

  • Kyle Edgecomb

Yes, im glad we get a season focusing on her, i just hope we get the season by april

  • Joe

It looks more like she was struggling and working rather than a dream to me. If this season is about earthbending maybe it is about how she struggle to become an earthbender/metalbender herself. Could explain why she was so harsh to korra and mako if her whole life was based around a struggle and they get it so easily and haven’t proved themself. What do ya think?

    • Sibis

Lin was strict with Korra and Mako because they weren’t following the laws/rules.

      • Joe

true but what I’m saying is, was Lin more aggressive on them because of her (potential) past?

        • Ariana Moreno

that would probably have something to do with it, I mean she had trouble getting a long with tenzin because of her history with him, so I’d say that could be possible. Especially since Tenzin made a comment about how Korra is the avatar, and so was his father. He stated that he and Lin had a history

          • Sibis

Lin was a career woman who put her job over Tenzin.

Tenzin dumped Lin because she didn’t want to carry his children.

It would be a real twist and shocker if Lin’s is unable to have children and that started the ball to ruin their relationship. She could have been born this way or something happened to her that caused it.

          • Ariana Moreno

Is this all something that you are hoping should happen to make the plot interesting? Or is there proof that this happened, and by that I’m going back to what you said about Tenzin dumping Lin just because children being his reason. It would be very interesting, but is this fact that this is why he and Lin never got around to being together?

          • Ariana Moreno

How do you know this? or is this just an idea that you have

          • Sibis
          • Ariana Moreno

this all seems like speculation though…I still don’t really believe it unless it is confirmed either by the creators or in the season itself.

  • Unitard

This pic is probably from a flashback of some sort, because Lin’s hair here is much darker that it normally is.

    • Zurrdroid

Yay, someone noticed! She seems young, given the hair colour, but she still has the scars. Hmm, seems whatever incident gave her that was pretty early in her life.

  • Loklover

Yes! Finally some book 3 pics are comin out! (: I’m getting to excited now!

  • Sibis

The Lin panting and sweating picture is from an OAV that Pierrot studio made independently. It’s completely voiced in Japanese.

The content of the video is fan service taking place in a bathhouse.

    • ajames123

      links to that video please…

    • Kakashi

      lind please…

  • Kaylee

She looks younger. Perhaps this is a flashback! :D

  • Raavatar

I can see she is really Beautiful!

  • razorstar90

Dang it Lin you should have had kids. The Bei Fong legacy of Awesome needs to continue.
