Studio Mir and Studio Pierrot may have shared the workload when they animated Book 2, but Nickelodeon won’t let that be the case when it comes to animating Book 3. Studio Mir used their official Facebook page to confirm that they would be animating Book 3 in its entirety. The situation between the two animation studios is still a bit unclear, but from my perspective it seems as though Studio Pierrot’s work was deemed unacceptable. That, or Studio Mir’s work is just much better than theirs. Either way, Studio Pierrot is out of the picture and we won’t have to worry about the change in animation style when it comes to Book 3.
Book 2, on the other hand, was half animated by Studio Mir and half animated by Studio Pierrot. Studio Pierrot reportedly animated the first episode (Rebel Spirit) and Studio Mir animated Beginning 1 & Beginning 2 (Wan’s episode). It’s still unclear how the rest of the episodes were divided.
You can see the Facebook post confirming this bit of news below:
I don’t really have a keen enough eye to notice subtle difference in animation, but I’ve seen a lot of people around the fandom notice a difference in the first episode. Most of those people have complained that the animation is not as crisp.
I suppose this is excellent news for them.
