When will Nickelodeon announce the release date for Book 3 of the Legend of Korra? About a month ago, Bryan Konietzko wrote that a release date for Book 3 had not been confirmed. This came as no surprise since the release date for Book 2 wasn’t announced until 15 months after the conclusion of Book 1. Now that just one month has passed since Book 2 concluded, it seems as though it’ll be an eternity before we get any kind of release date for Book 3. Or will it?
Several months ago, Bryan Konietzko used his Tumblr page to confirm that the offseason for Book 3 will be much shorter than the offseason for Book 2, which lasted a lengthy 18 months. We can take this to mean that all of the wait times we endured for Book 2 will be much more compacted this time around.
What this tells us is that the wait time for Book 3’s release date announcement, specifically, should be less than 15 months. That doesn’t really do us much good, so let’s dive into some more specifics.

Sometime yesterday, Nickelodeon posted two new Legend of Korra Book 2 commercials on their official website. The commercials were very similar to the last commercial we received, the only difference being the premiere date listed for Book 2. The original commercial listed Book 2 to premiere on September 13th. The two commercials Nickelodeon recently released changed things up a bit and suggested that Book 2 would air this Friday or today. For some reason, many people believed this and I’ve been getting tweets and emails from many confused fans.
Book 2 will still be airing on September 13th. These two commercials Nickelodeon released are just commercials that they plan on airing when we get closer to the September 13th release date. For example, a week from Book 2’s release date, Nickelodeon will air the commercial stating that Book 2 will air this Friday. On September 13th, Nickelodeon will air the commercial stating that Book 2 will air today.

The last bit of information Legend of Korra fans have been waiting on for 15 months has finally been announced. Nickelodeon has confirmed that Book 2 of The Legend of Korra will premiere on Friday, September 13th at 7 pm EST. This confirmation was made through an exclusive clip revealed by Yahoo First Look. Perhaps the clip will also be shown during The Last Airbender premiere too? Many sources had listed Book 2 to premiere on September 7th and I’m still questioning why they ruined their credibility by lying about the release date. Maybe this was just a placeholder date like Amazon had for Book 1’s DVD release date?
Either way, this is just another learning experience. Even though most of us already knew that the sources weren’t entirely reliable, we now know to ignore any future release dates they list for Book 3 or Book 4 completely.
Speaking of future release dates, I think this off-season has taught us something valuable about the premiere date of future Books (Clip is below):

Several weeks back, an iPhone app suggested that Book 2’s first episode would premiere on September 7th. The reliability of the app was unknown at the time, so the information was taken as a grain of salt. However, we now have a secondary source that is also saying Book 2 will premiere on September 7th. This secondary source is an online TV Guide known as TV Calendar – a website that displays the air date for all upcoming shows in the coming months. The large time-frame the guide covers allows users to see listings through the month of September. While browsing the listings for the month, I found the Legend of Korra scheduled to premiere on September 7th.
Typically we’d be considering the reliability of this site before jumping the gun and getting excited, but things are slightly different in this case. This is the second source that has essentially confirmed the same premiere date. We need to put some sort of stock into the fact that two separate sources have found common ground with September 7th.
So should we expect Book 2 to premiere on September 7th?

It’s been well noted that Nickelodeon plans on announcing Book 2’s release date at some point this week. I assumed that Mike and Bryan would probably end up posting it on their Tumblr to break the news, but it looks like Nickelodeon will get a little creative this time around. I was able to get some more news out of Nickelodeon by assigning one of my followers (@AvatarKanol) the task of asking the network about the release date once again. I would’ve asked Nickelodeon myself, but they tend to ignore my tweets – no surprise there.
Nickelodeon responded with yet another cryptic tweet that wasn’t very difficult to decipher. They asked if there was any Avatar event on TV that could possibly announce a release date for the new season. They ended the tweet with their typical winky face that signals a hint.
I browsed through the Nickelodeon schedule for the week and found the Avatar event Nickelodeon is probably alluding to. The event takes place Thursday night at 7 pm, but I don’t think anyone will be particularly fond of it.
It’s practically déjà vu.
