The Legend of Korra Book 2 Release Date Announced

The last bit of information Legend of Korra fans have been waiting on for 15 months has finally been announced. Nickelodeon has confirmed that Book 2 of The Legend of Korra will premiere on Friday, September 13th at 7 pm EST. This confirmation was made through an exclusive clip revealed by Yahoo First Look. Perhaps the clip will also be shown during The Last Airbender premiere too? Many sources had listed Book 2 to premiere on September 7th and I’m still questioning why they ruined their credibility by lying about the release date. Maybe this was just a placeholder date like Amazon had for Book 1’s DVD release date?

Either way, this is just another learning experience. Even though most of us already knew that the sources weren’t entirely reliable, we now know to ignore any future release dates they list for Book 3 or Book 4 completely.

Speaking of future release dates, I think this off-season has taught us something valuable about the premiere date of future Books (Clip is below):

Nickelodeon typically announces the release date for The Legend of Korra just weeks before the premiere. The network announced Book 1’s release date on March 15th and Book 1 premiered on April 14th. In this case, Nickelodeon announced Book 2’s release date today, August 15th and it’s going to premiere on September 13th.

The gap between the announcement of the release date and the actual release is just a few weeks. I suppose this is just something to keep in mind next year so we don’t falsely expect the release date so many times.

That being said, forget about next year. Book 2 is practically right in front of us so let’s enjoy that as much as possible!

I’m so excited that I’m going to watch The Last Airbender movie for pure amusement tonight. Anyone with me? It’ll be a good laugh…or cry.

    • Aeri

Don’t worry, we’ll be too busy laughing our butts off at how ridiculous it is! Though it’s a shame it wasn’t as good as it could have been, that won’t stop me from going hysterical at how much they got wrong. The last time I watched the movie, I was cackling more than raging, because it was just so darn cute.

      • The Gotham Ninja

I’m not angry, disappointed yes but not angry. Its hilarious how much they got wrong. First time I really wasnt too familiar with the series. But after watching the show, then watching the movie again now, I cant help but laugh at the ridiculousness :P

        • The Gotham Ninja

Even the end was whacked :P Sozin’s Comet strengthens the firebending of all firebenders to the highest level, just as the moon does for waterbenders. “HE’S MAKING FIRE FROM NOTHING!” What idiots.

          • Katie

‘We will have the power to create fire!”

            With what, sticks?

    • AvatarRishi

Isnt that wierd that Nick released Book 2 Official Air Date at the same day as India’s Independence. LOL

      • Brendan

What does that have to do with anything?

        • m

Since the lands in the Avatar World represent countries in Asia, it makes a lot of sense.

          • ahmed omer

what if on 14th august pakistan,s independence day well on whatever day they announce we have just to see korra book 2

    • Brendan

That movie was probably the worst movie I’ve seen in my life. The acting was HORRIBLE, plus they left out half of the original plot from Book One of the series.

      • The Gotham Ninja

They also mixed up stuff, like a certain scene taken from book 2 was stuck in there

      • Katie

“To get your airbending tattoos *long pause* you must meditate *long pause* for long periods *long pause, male audience laughs* of time.”

    • m

That movie was awful. It’s like shymamlalalan used the series as a blue print, and made some weird fanfic out of it. Plus he switched it around so the heroes were white people, and the villains were people of color. It’s really disgusting since he’s a poc, and hollywood whitewashes so many characters in books. He has a lot of internalized racism.

      • Brendan

I don’t think he was being racist… so what if they were white? Isn’t the Fire Nation a completely different part of the Avatar World. It would make sense that they are more colored then, right? I don’t think you need to play the race card on everything, come on.

        • Katie

Earth Kingdom people are meant to be Asian, like Chinese Asian. Fire Nation in the movie looked more Filipino, where as they’re kind of white, but their culture has more of an Asian feel. I have this feeling that they based Air Nomads off Tibetan monks, and I have NO idea what the Water Tribe people are supposed to be. Their skin is darker then most characters in the series, and I don’t know what race that is.

          • m

Fire nation in the movie were Indian, or desi. I’m filipino, I know what my people look like. And the water tribe is supposed to be Inuit and possibly Mongolian.

          • Katie

Indian sounds right. I wrote that earlier today right after I woke up, and I literally stumbled across my room to look at my computer. Mongolian makes sense, though “So Kah” and Katara are white. That review guy is right, they did a horrible job in casting. There’s no way they can be related to the rest of the tribe heritage wise.

        • m

“the race card”. You must be white. And they’re not completely different? Unless they live on the sun, they live in the same world as everyone else. Every fire nation citizen is white, excluding those in the colonies. The only non-white firebenders are the sun warriors. And colored? You’re a racist. There’s a difference between “colored” and poc. And every movie where the villains are black and brown, they are always portrayed as evil, whereas white people villains are seen from many different perspectives, like Zuko and Azula. I could write quite a bit, but I’ll give you a link since you won’t listen to people of color, just like most white people. http://voices.yahoo.com/whitewash-controversy-behind-last-airbender-5538069.html This is fairly good on discussing whitewashing in Hollywood, but the main point is this: It’s only okay for people of color to be the main characters in fiction, in cartoons. But casting real people? Nope. Suddenly there’s no one talented enough for the role except someone white. In fact, if you look up whitewashing one of the first results is “whitewashing the last airbender”. You can’t tell me that it wasn’t racist when something clearly based on Asian culture and people who look like me are suddenly wiped out in favor of people I see on magazines, television, and just about every other single entertainment outlet there is.

          • Brendan

When I said the “race card”, it’s because you brought it up – the whole idea that the director/creator (or whatever he is) was racist simply because the “bad guys” weren’t white. Seriously, it’s probably a coincidence. And also, movie creators, directors, etc. will cast who they want to. They don’t have to cast other races. They can, but they don’t have to. You know, I’ve seen plenty of movies where all the characters are black. Is that racist then? Well, it must be to you if you think they have to cast an equal amount of races. I’m not going to get in a fight with you about race, but it just seems like a lot of people these days do bring up race more than needed. Everyone is treated fairly in America now (through law, government, etc.). You might call me a racist, but you would be misjudging me. And again, just like Africa is different than North America, people will have different skin colors in the Fire Nation than in the elsewhere.

          • jo

Any person who tells someone that they are racist are in fact racist themselves, you must be black and are saying these things because we are white, it works both ways, im so sick of hearing about that stuff when we are in fact a country living together with different races and different people get over the past people move on. We all live on this world but we don’t have someone like an avatar to keep peace we do that ourselves.

    • Rumors

      Hehe

    • KorraFan

I watched the movie tonight just so I could see the promo, also, I had a couple hours to kill. Yeah, this movie is basically a comedy just because everyone is so extremely out of character. The bad acting certainly didn’t help, but even great acting wouldn’t have been able to completely make up for the bad writing. The film is way too dark and depressing and doesn’t feel like the show at all. But my most major complaint is that not only is the storyline hard to follow in some spots, most of the scenes are just plain boring. I literally almost fell asleep during some of the action scenes. Also, if someone who doesn’t know the show is watching it, I’d actually be surprised if they weren’t completely lost by the midway point, which shouldn’t be the case. Also, it irritated me to no end how no less than three main characters had their names be mispronounced.

But I hate being totally negative so I do have some positive things to say about it. For the most part, the special effects are pretty decent. Also, I think they did a good job with Appa and Momo. And they at least made some effort to do things that were actually in the show (such as Katara waterbending and accidentally freezing Sokka).

But let’d focus on the main topic at hand here: BOOK 2 IN LESS THAN A MONTH! :D I know Friday the 13th is supposed to be bad luck, but for me it’s actually good luck, and now I have another example of that. Also, it looks like episode 2 will be airing on my birthday! :) Come on guys, we’ve waited almost 14 months… we can wait one more! :)

    • Joe

In a Q&A Mike and Bryan said they would explore Lin Beifongs family in Book 3 :D

    • Sam

Hey, I did that just a couple days ago. It was so funny! My friends and I were laughing to the point of tears when they went into the Earth Kingdom colony and it took 6 Earthbenders doing a well choreographed dance routine to gently float a small boulder across the screen…

  • Amonster

Just saw the commercial on yahoo. All I can say is the next 29 days are gonna be HELL!!!

  • Dman

    the animation looks awful

    • Aeri

It kinda does, but I’m not gonna let that spoil my happiness, okay. D: The video was cool nonetheless, I love the part at the end when Bolin’s like ‘Deflate me please’ and Eska’s just like ICE SPIKES

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

I hate to say it, but I agree with you.

      • Carson G. Smith

I am going to have disagree. Awful is definitely an over exaggeration. It might not be at its best, but awful? Come on, I think its fine. I am not only a fan of the show, but I am an animator and it looks fine.

Awful is South Park in terms of animation.

        • Katie

Awful is when Peter Griffin insults the network, then walks out frame by frame.

      • Katie

It’s not awful, it’s just more japaneseish. We should all remember our long discussion involving the teaser clip from those two idiot kids involving Studio Mir and Pierrot.

    • http://www.performerfx.de/ PerformerFX

The animation is NOT ALWAYS awful. But at some parts its really messed up. But well… I could be worse ;)

      • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

The parts the animation looks messed in are probably clips Pierrot did.

        • http://www.performerfx.de/ PerformerFX

Pierrot didn’t messed up everything as your sentence would suggest. The first episode was entirely animated by them and looks OKAY.

          • MitchGunner

I think even “OKAY” is an understatement. Book 2 still looks to have the best animation on TV, including Studio Pierrot’s work on the series.

          • Allen

i’d say a lot of other shows like young justice had/have better animation than the studio pierrot book 2 scenes…it’s just really clumsy and clunky.

better than atla at least i guess…but once uve had a taste of real amazing animation, u can never go back :(

          • Allen

just ‘okay’. entirely too cartoonish and sloppy

    • Hambug

Meh… The bending looks awful, but everything else looks fine. To me, it’s not much about the animation as it is about the story.

    • Spencer Hayden

I wouldn’t say that it was awful, but I am disheartened to say that (despite knowing Bryan and Mike’s dedication to animation quality) there are some blatant drops in quality. Including putting the completely wrong face on Korra in the campfire scene lol. Also (and I realize that animation is not cheap and takes a great amount of time and effort) did anyone else notice that in the south pole festival scenes that not a single person in the crowds at the fair move other than the main characters, they just all stand there like mannequins. But reguardless, I am still excited and will be tuning in on September 13th :)

    • Brendan

Keep in mind that the video above was re-recorded. You can see the little blue bar in the beginning. This could have an affect on how it looks. Also, at 0:33, you can see that the sound is not in complete sync with what Mako is saying. I think this is a sign that the re-recorded video is in a lower quality than the original video. I don’t know – the animation could be awful, I’m just saying that the fact that the video was re-recorded and posted again might mean the animation looks worse than it is.

  • Aangfan61

I thought they were gonna release it during the movie.

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

      They most likely still will.

      • Aangfan61

        That is true Keval.

  • Meiko

    I love this!!! Can’t wait!!!

  • Ace

Too bad you’re not psychic (it would give me hope for those waterbending skills that still haven’t kicked in yet, it seems). On a more serious note, do you know why they changed LoK to a Friday night? I’m not mad, it actually fits into my schedule much better since I won’t need to wake up so early on Saturday now. But any ideas as to why they moved it?

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

Ugh…I wish I was. Not sure why they moved it to Friday to be honest. It was surprising but I guess it make sense considering how congested Nickelodeon’s Saturday schedule is with TMNT.

      • Ace

So do I. One week earlier for my favorite show would’ve been great, especially now that I have a whole new group of friends that I found out love Legend of Korra and invited me to their house to watch the first episode of Book 2.

    • CoolGuy

They probably realized they had an older audience watching.

  • DunbansBiggestFanForever

I am pretty excited. But man, the animation in that trailer doesn’t look very good at all. Thank god Studio Mir didn’t leave production and at least did half of the season. (and that Pierrot isn’t coming back for Book 3/4)

    • Sibis

They should have went with Gainax. Evagelion, Gurren Lagaan.

      • Georgino

Gainax would rename The Legend of Korra based on one of their latest shows to Uggs, Red Scarf, Equalist Glove and Green Jacket

  • Sibis

It’ll go down like this. Korra will be dealing with these Spirits. Then it will be revealed that the Dark Spirits (Hollow cry) made with animosity from the 100 year war. Main villain will be revealed to be Aizen. He’ll yak yak on about all of this as part of some big plan and he had a hand in Republic City Equalist with Amon. Aizen stomps the whole Korra gang. Ichigo shows up and massive fight beating Aizen.

THIS IS HILLARIOUS!!! I LAUGHED MY ASS OFF :’D

    • Hi

      That was hilarious!

    • TimeRider01

      That made my night! Hilarious!!!

    • LOL

HOW DO YOU FUCK THAT UP??

  • Aangfan61

They even put up the trailer on Nick. That must be how Yahoo got it.

  • AvatarTizi91

Finally,we have the date.Fun on Fridays, not Saturdays, but it doesn’t matter, because the season during to September 13th at December 13th,if not pause or other.Maybe the last episode is a special Christmas episode.Let’s see in the future!AVATAR POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Derrick

After rewatching the trailer, I can say the animation doesn’t look that bad. Not GREAT, but not bad. The first time I watched it, I literally was laughing my but off at how utterly horrific the animation was. But it’s okay. Still a bit too cartoonish for my taste though. Book 2 is just gonna have to work double time because LOK can’t rely on its flawless animation anymore. The storytelling is gonna have to be top notch. Never hire Studio Pierrot again Bryke! EVER! I never thought I would miss studio mir so much, but at least they animated half the book to make up for Pierrot’s shortcomings. JAPAN FAILS! Stick with the Koreans next time.

    • Georgino

Pierrot is busy animating many shows like Naruto. Their quality wouldn’t be as great as Studio Mir.

      • Derrick

I guess. Still sad tho considering one of the best things about the show was its aesthetic appeal. Oh well. Theres always book 3 and 4 to look for. I believe studio Mir will go back to animating those.

        • Sally

I honestly can’t tell the difference between the two. I’d have to agree with Georgino though; with multiple projects going on, I could understand there would be a slight drop in quality; however, with all the people complaining with this show looking cartoonish, is that not what this show is? Please, animate something better if there isn’t constructive criticism.

          • Derrick

Well, like I said in my first comment, it’s not that bad after rewatching it and getting used to it. I probably should wait until the episodes air to have a final judgment on their quality.

“however, with all the people complaining with this show looking cartoonish, is that not what this show is?”
True, that’s a valid argument, but Sally, there’s a difference between animation with beautiful flowing colors, excellent, well placed shadows, realistically moving clothes, good proportions, and smooth lines and animation that has childish, crudely drawn images with less precision, unrealistic movement, and is unprofessional looking. Not saying that this book 2 trailer looks like that tho because, like I said, its not that bad after another look. BUT there is such a thing as animated cartoons looking TOO cartoonish. Go watch the Kung Fu Panda movies made by Dreamworks and then watch the nickelodeon show Kung Fu Panda Legends of Awesomeness. SIGNIFICANT drop in quality in terms of animation. Why? Because the movies’ animation had all the good qualities that I listed before that IMO cartoons should have. The show does not have that beautiful, bright, and majestic look to it because it doesn’t have the same budget and thus looks cartoonish. The movies animation looks crisp while the show’s just looks blocky. Forgive me if I sound a bit rude, but I’m an artist and I believe there’s a way to make cartoons look like freaking masterpieces, and also make them look like child’s play. This clip IMO doesn’t look like child’s play but it doesn’t have certain qualities that made Mir’s animation look absolutely gorgeous! But like I said, I’ll reserve my final judgement until we actually see it. That seems fair.

          • Sally

Fair enough; and you make valid points as well. I just feel judgments should be reserved until the final product is released.

  • cement

the animtaion isnt that bad… hell most anime n cartoons have alot of frames that look like shit!!! hell i was watching SWORD ART ONLINE ON TOONAMI and then i paused it n there war literally stik figures for a split secnd

I cannot wait for Season Two. I watched the movie JUST for the commercial. It was aweful. Until about 7 minutes in, when the commersial FINALLY aired. It was awesome. There are a few unseen parts that are interesting, and funny. I’m glad I can finally stop watching this sorry excuse for a movie..

  • The Gotham Ninja

The animation was pretty sad, but even so, I’m excited :D

The animation looks exactly the same to me.

  • watchingall

Who ever said that bad things happen on Friday the 13th is wrong, very wrong.

    • Brendan

I know. One thing happens on Friday, October 13th, 1307 (see below) and it’s now all of the sudden the day of bad luck.

On Friday, October 13th, 1307, the Pope in Rome made a secret death warrant against The Knights Templar. The Pope was also working with the King of France to do this.

    • Noivern

      Right? Superstition is stupid.

  • Aeri

I hope we find out who Lin’s father is in book 2, because I just thought of something that, like, blew my mind. If Lin didn’t have children and it never stated that they had any other relatives, won’t the Beifong (or Bei Fong, I don’t know the correct spelling D:) lineage die out, with the fortune?

    • Ace

That’s a very interesting question. To start out, I very highly doubt that Lin has a child, but you never know. Second of all, I’m not sure what exactly happened to the Beifong fortune. For all we know, Toph may have of never inherited it because she ran away from home, or maybe something happened and the family lost all their money. Maybe they still have it, maybe they don’t, but I hope we find out. But yes, I really want to find out who Lin’s father is. I have a few guesses, but there is no real reason for any of them. It could just be a random person Toph fell in love with in Republic City. I just want to find out, and soon.

      • Aeri

Yeah, there’s like a .001 chance Lin had a child. She’s just not the mother type. It’s just not something they ever had the need to go into, but it’s always interesting to find out more about the stuff no one ever thinks about. @ Sibis, we’ll just have to wait and see. I don’t think the Beifongs had another child with Toph’s generation, but maybe Toph had two and we just haven’t seen another yet. All the more reasons to watch Korra when it comes out again.

    • Sibis

I predict that Toph’s parents had another child. She goes off doing her thing while her younger sibling gets the fortune.

Since Toph finally gets a big role time in the next comic arc, having some issues between Toph and her parents would be good.

Plenty of time has passed for there to be a younger sibling a year old at least.

  • Katie

    ….Really? Friday the 13th?

I made an inhuman sound when I read the title of this artical.

  • Hi

I could’t watch the last airbender when it came on so I recorded it and just finished watching it “ong” “ovatar” “soaka”(as in like soak) and the actors and crap it was so off! In The last posts comments somebody thought Keval was a girl so just so ya know I’m a guy too it’s probably hard to tell cause my name. I just could’t think of a name do I put hi sorry if me writing this offends Keval or the person who wrote it

  • Anon

Glad I didn’t sit through the movie for this release date, lol. My time was much better spent on YouTube watching Bee and Puppycat and Bravest Warriors. Regardless, it’s wonderful to know we finally have a date and time for LoK. Took long enough!

  • Raya

Thank you so much for having this blog! After checking it every day for months, it’s so awesome to actually get information!!

  • Sibis

I’m going to hit mute on the police chase scene. The line at the end sounds bad to me.

    • http://www.performerfx.de/ PerformerFX

You provoking another Mako hate disscusion right now xD

      • Sibis

Nope. I just don’t like cheesy action scene one liners. This is a show trying to be dark yet jumps back to kiddie at a moment’s notice.

    • MitchGunner

It’s supposed to be bad… It’s a corny one-liner! The joke even comes back a little later in the episode when Mako reveals that he wrote the line ahead of time. It’s not a line to be taken seriously.

  • Korra1225

so thats about in a months time :D I CAN’T WAIT, I CAN’T WAIT, I-I-I…. I THINK IM GOING TO FAINT *faints* :3

Maybe I will ask something stupid… But when is it going to be available online? For foreigners. :P I just can’t wait to see it, but I don’t remember how was it with Book 1. Or I should just stay calm, because it will be uploaded, and a poor hungarian girl like me can watch it too…?

When I look back on Studio Pierrot’s animation compared to Studio Mir’s, I’d definitely have to agree with the others commenting that the animation Pierrot did actually is poor.

But what matters the most is the storyline anyway. :)

maybe they didn’t lie exactly. we all expected that korra would have the same saturday time slot and the 7th is the beginning of the same week that korra actually does premiere. I would say that the 7th was an accurate enough estimate that it helped me wait for book 2.
