The Legend of Korra Season 3 Release Date Announced and Extended Sneak Peek

After some blood, sweat and tears, a release date for The Legend of Korra season 3 has officially been announced. According to IGN, the third season of The Legend of Korra will premiere Friday, June 27th at 7 pm on Nickelodeon. In case it hasn’t already occurred to you, that’s a week from today. On Friday, June 27th, Nickelodeon will premiere the first two episodes: A Breath of Fresh Air and Rebirth of a Nation. IGN reports that there will be a special bonus presentation of the third episode, The Earth Queen, at 8 pm – meaning that Friday will premiere three episodes. There will be a break the week after for the Fourth of July holiday and episodes will resume the following Friday, July 11th at its regular time slot, 8 pm.

In Book 3’s first episode, A Breath of Fresh Air, Avatar Korra discovers that her decision to leave the spirit portals open has unexpected consequences. Wild spirit vines have overgrown Republic City and Airbenders are suddenly popping up across the four nations. In Book 3’s second episode, Rebirth of a Nation, Korra, Tenzin and Team Avatar search for new Airbenders in an effort to recruit them and rebuild the Air Nation. Meanwhile, a band of sinister criminals are organizing to hunt down the Avatar themselves.

A 5 minute sneak peek from Book 3’s first episode, A Breath of Fresh Air, can be found below. The clip depicts Korra and Tenzin traversing through the vine-infested Republic City and Bumi airbending for the first time.

  • QD

a whole lot earlier than anyone expected, you see what happens when nick is under some pressure?

  • Nico

Thank God we have a release date! But I swear Nick can’t just be dropping these bombshells on us a week beforehand. I hope there marketing campaign is off becuz this is bizarre.

  • http://www.performerfx.de/ PerformerFX

This is so relieving and statisfying. But WTF Nickelodeon… No time for advertising left. They seem to do not care. This is all because of the leaks. Now they rush it. They did not take their time and now its all so suddendly.
Also the timeslot… IS SO BAD! SO EXTREMLY BAD!

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

Thanks for the new background. Looks amazing!

      • http://www.performerfx.de/ PerformerFX

I actually just copied it from the german Nickelodeon page. But eversince Nickelodeon is supporting you: This shouldnt be an issue.

  • Josh

I’m literally hysterical right now! And I guess Nick doesn’t care that much about ratings since the only advertising they have done is a trailer. But maybe their just making sure no more leaks happen. Well either way i’m going into hibernation for a week!!!

    • Joe

I’m posting here cause I want people to see it… anyone know about this extra avatar the last airbender book they are doing titled legacy?? I don’t think its a fan book… http://www.avatarspirit.net/news.php?id=754

      • blood red rose

My gosh you were this close to making me cry! When ATLA and LOK are gone I might cry buckets because I pretty much grew up with them! And to me this is just more than a tv show… its memories

        • Josh

When the finale episode of ATLA aired I remember not being that sad since I thought there was going to be another season. I mean when Zuko asked where his mother was who didn’t think they were alluding to a 4th book? This time around I know they are definitely ending Korra at Book 4, so this makes me so sad :(

          • blood red rose

            I know right?! Waaaaahhhh! :(

*Runs to closet and cries eyes out*

          • JayLow

Well Aang’s adventure is still ongoing. Read the comics if you like. They found Zuko’s mom, there’s a little history about how Republic City was formed and they just started a new adventure wich is about Avatar Yangchen. So it didn’t end actually. And there’s a comic book about some side stories not shown in the series. It’s really interesting!

          • D

but comics are different from TV shows…

  • ahmedumer

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES FINALLY AND ITS JUNE 27TH seriously i am so hyped right now get hyped get hyped yes.

  • Fadi Obaya

Now that episode 1 & 2 are coming, I’ll just watch them and skip ahead to episode 7, cuz episodes 3-6 already leaked.. :)

    • ahmedumer

well i wont do like youa re gonna do i am gonna absorb every single awesomeness of english dub.

  • ahmedumer

now i wonder what is gonna happen in book 3 finale like now we know the story what do you guys think?

    • Joe

4 criminals vs korra unless theres some mega spirity thing again O_O

      • ahmedumer

but for what they will fight with korra their would be a reason.

  • Emily Anderson

Seriously? ONE week’s notice? Don’t they ever learn from experience? Last season, I saw a lot of users on Twitter that didn’t even know there was a Book 2, let alone that it was going on right then. The same thing’s going to happen this season. I realize that they’re trying to keep the leaks under control, but they’re basically cutting their own throats with this one.

And the premiere date is seriously on June 27th? They couldn’t have picked a worse date; that’s the same night as the new Disney Channel movie, and the premiere of Girl Meets World! People who don’t know about the premiere (and trust me, there will be many) are obviously going to be on their rival channel, especially for Girl Meets World. On a marketing standpoint, putting it on the same night as these is almost psychotic!

On the other hand, I’m really glad it’s premiering soon. :D I just wish they’d thought this out a little more; I’ve heard a lot of good speculation about this season, and I want it to be the best it can be.

    • K

They premiere at different times. There’s no conflict.

  • Diego Moura

I think that Nickelodeon is so DUMB. Because, all this drama to release the show next week. And the time slot is at Friday Nights. We have all of us, reunite and watch it, because I don’t think that the premiere will receive much views as Book 1 was

  • Loklover

All I can say is…. HELL YEAH FINALLY! One week from now?!!! This week is gonna go by so slow just watch lol. IM SO FUCKIN PUMPED!!!!! MY PARENTS FREAKED OUT WHEN I HEARD THE NEWS CUHS I SCREAMED SO LOUD!!! Lol

YAAAAAS!!! KORRA IN ONE WEEK!! LETS HANG IN THERE AVATARDS!

  • Wyatt

This is the strangest premiere I have ever come across, but whatever… I’m not complaining :)

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

My thoughts exactly. But I’m a fan, not a Nickelodeon staff member – so I’ll take it! :)

You ready to get started on reviews?

      • Wyatt

Absolutely! I’ve been pretty absent from the community this offseason, and I haven’t turned up much content (sorry), but I think I’ll be much more excited to write when the season kicks off.

  • Korrava

Hahahahahha my body is so not ready. SO EXCITED

    • Ariana Moreno

that’s what she said XD….sorry, just had to haha but yesh, i agree wit ya!

  • Wyatt

In my opinion, and this is based exclusively on that clip, the animation is a little underwhelming. Don’t get me wrong, it looks very good, but it’s not as impressive as I would have imagined for a premiere. For example, the water splash off of the leave at the beginning of the clip looks bland, the character movement is a little choppy when Korra, Tenzin, and Jinora enter the scene, and the shot of Republic city covered in vines isn’t very detailed. Take that as you will… Now, let me reiterate that the trailer and the leaked episodes showcased some awesome animation, so I am likely not accurately assessing the quality of the rest of the premiere’s animation.

    • Rache

Hey at least be thankful that even if some parts look bland in the animation, it will never be as bland as the animation of studio pierrot

      • Wyatt

True, but I do give Studio Pierrot props for the first two episodes of Book 2 (with the exception of the beginning of the first which is undeniably dull looking). Re-watch the fight scenes at least from the Book 2 premiere and you’ll notice that Pierrot made them look very smooth and detailed.

        • Guest

I suppose, but even though Studio Pierrot was able to make some smooth animation at times, they still distorted the main characters’ faces a lot. Especially Asami and Tenzin

    • Link9150

You’re not the only one that noticed this. It’s only nitpicking, but still present.
Also, I noticed Korra’s voice seemed a bit different, kind of like a bit more high-pitched or louder, not sure. Just a little different.

      • Wyatt

Glad I’m not the only one, and I didn’t notice Korra’s voice change. I’ll have to re-watch it.

    • crystalline

I understand that sometimes the animation may not be to your standards, but give them a break. Don’t take this the wrong way, but could you do what they do? Animating things takes patience and skill. I know you probably appreciate their work, but I find it quite rude and unnecessary to be so quick to critique their animation for the most minor and subtle things. I am so very thankful for this show and find that quality is amazing and I wouldn’t want it any other way! I don’t think we should be so quick to judge, considering all we do is sit back and watch, the hard part is actually making the show, we would all probably fail it. I’m sure you’re not trying to sound mean, but you’re sure coming off as bothersome and ungrateful critiquing their work in that matter considering you probably could not come close to doing what they do….

      • Wyatt

I’d wager everyone here in this community couldn’t make a TV series because nobody has the experience, but that wouldn’t make our opinions invalid. TV shows are a product that we (the consumers) are buying and the best way to ensure we continue to revceive high quality work is to voice our opinion. It would be silly to give a bad movie or show a pass because we don’t have the experience to create a better version. I think the animation in Book 3 looks great overall, and while I admit that I was nitpicking the animation from the clip, I am fully aware that nitpick add up until they become an issue. I am confident that the premiere will change my mind since I am only criticizing a 5 minute clip. I’m not trying to sound mean either, but I’ve heard the “you shouldn’t critic something because you can’t do it yourself” jargon a number of times and the actuality is that it doesn’t make sense. The great Roger Ebert never produced a theatre film in his life, but was probably the most well respected movie critic in the world.

        • crystalline

youre not a critic though just a fan. In actuality of course everthing has its flaws, but as a whole I dont think its fair for anyone to judge anyones work in that matter out of respect, and who are we to judge?!? Although people dont always show it, being critized for long hard work is painful.

          • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

Wyatt is a critic on this blog. And yes, critiquing hurts but it’s the nature if putting yourself out there. In the words of Rocky Balboa, “The world ain’t all sun shine and rainbows.” Everyone gets critiqued even me. Critiquing is a right that everyone has and it only helps to make things better. It’s also an opinionated thing so Wyatt’s dislike for parts of the animation should not affect you. It’s his opinion.

          • Wyatt

Thanks. And I didn’t mean to disrespect crystalline.

          • Wyatt

I don’t want to get into a big debate or anything because I’m really not trying to sound mean, but to say that we (as in everyone here) aren’t critics is naive considering we critique things all the time every day. What’s good? What’s bad? It’s human nature. You and I have critiqued The Legend of Korra and we’ve determined it to be a great show, hence why we visit this website. And actually, I do write reviews for this website during the season, so technically I am a published critic. Do you understand what I mean? I feel like I’m causing irritation over a minor issue…

  • Seabiscuit

Imagine if i squeled for the trailer, i bigtime fangirled when i saw that the release date is a week away! And im not 14 a year old dude amore, i turned 15 yesterday

  • Michelle

Wow. That was sudden. But YAY THIS IS AMAZING!!!

  • AwSam Weston

I’m sad that Nickelodeon continues to be stupid and ignore the 18-35 fans. Friday is probably THE worst night for them to get “Korra” ratings.
But I’d also like to point out how I guessed Book 3′s premise right. Glad the writers chose this path.

    • Rache

I agree. Friday is a bad day for the majority of the audience. BUT I think that Nickelodeon is relying more on the online ratings now instead of TV ratings for the show. I heard that book 2 may have struggled with TV ratings but the episodes online had very high ratings.

      • AwSam Weston

Does Nickelodeon even get ad dollars from online ratings? I’d imagine their biggest source of income is with the broadcast version.

        • Rache

Oh yes, they definitely get ad dollars. Every time I watch a video on their website (which is rarely) they advertise a ton of commercials between every like 7 minutes for an episode

    • Joe

something like a sunday morning would be good…

      • Rebecca Wolf

Yeah, no one goes to church anymore.

      • AwSam Weston

Actually, Sunday would be terrible because (at least in America) the Christians would be at Church.
I’d think Saturday morning. Y’know, “Saturday morning cartoons.”

  • Katie

    AHHHHHH IM FLIPPING OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Elizabeth

Why was the title to episode 3 changed? I thought it was supposed to be called “The Earth Queen.”

    • Ifreke Umana

I think it was originally called “Meet the Family”, but then changed to Earth Queen.

  • Greenfire

I predicted a release window of May-July. Looks like it’s coming out in June.

    Nailed it.

Now how am I going to watch it? My TV provider dropped ALL Viacom channels (Viacom wanted 3.6 MILLION from a small community of 5,000 pop.).

Will the episodes be posted here like they were for book 2?

  • EpicAvatarGerber

This was so unexpected, Nick decides to release the date a week away?

    What about Comic-Con? What about marketing? What about Friday?! People are buys on Friday’s and over here in Georgia (America) School’s out and people are STILL BUSY! I think they should’ve done it on a Saturday, wait, they should’ve thought about it! Believe me, I’m super excited, by my sister will be doing her driving on that day and I’m gonna be sad because we’ve been planning to watch it as a family ;_;

    Oh well…

  • Professor Farnsworth

I’m happy that it’s coming soon.
I’m confused that Nick thought it was important to tell us nearly nothing about Book 3 up to the last couple weeks (what ever happened to EFFECTIVE marketing?), and I don’t know why they lagged to badly releasing the S2 BluRay so that I can’t even watch the previous season again first (my DVR died and we lost the eps) … but, nevertheless, I’m happy we get to see it soon.

    • Professor Farnsworth

Sorry for the typos, that should be “whatever” and “so badly” — I’m just so excited. ;-)

      • Professor Farnsworth

Actually “what ever” was right, but whatever.

  • Zuzu

Although this season premiere is weird it actually makes a bit of sense. As we already know episodes 3-6 had been leaked and by the time we get episode 6 aired, comic con would be of some use to promote book 3′s later episodes.
It seems like Nick doesn’t consider the ratings for Korra as the time slots are terrible, but it is summer in America so it should make up for it. Well at least we can expect commercials to begin airing, they have to air commercials.
Just out of curiosity has Nick ever taken this method of marketing (not really marketing) but this approach for another T.V. series.
But i am happy we are getting book 3 and i am really happy that it will start right after school ends, and i get a 2 week holiday. Australia!

  • foaming

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT’S ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND IT’S GONNA AIR ALL SUMMER VACATION!!!! FU*K YEAH

    • Orange9746

      Happy Early Birthday! :D

    • http://www.ChoOhana.deviantart.com/ ChoOhana

Hehe than this will surely be an birthday present for you!^.^

      And Happy Early B-Day btw!

  • Ifreke Umana

Nickelodeon better use this week to promote the crap out of this season if they want ratings to increase.

  • Link9150

I am loving this, but it also makes me mad at Nick. They treat this show as if it was something in the way.
Their Facebook page just posted about Kung Fu panda 2 tv show and a generic idiotic teenage show but not about The Legend of Korra…. Fuck Nick.

    • Ariana Moreno

I agree with you all the way. This is awesome because we finally get to be freed from this dry spell, but like you said, it’s like Nick just threw their arms up and said, f*ck it, lets air it now. They don’t give a f*ck about nick and their priorities are wrong. I guess all we can do is focus on getting a taste of what looks like some hard-Korra work haha XD and the fact that leaks are no longer going to happen

      • Yung Nasib

there is so much hype for this season i can see alot of people tunning in on friday, i can see me and my siblings glued to the screen

        • Ariana Moreno

well that’s good. i’m hoping that the ratings will be better for this book because it deserves higher ratings from what we’ve seen. :p

          • Yung Nasib

yea, quite frankly, everyone knows nick doesnt care about the ratings and hopefully things go smoothly for the season 3 premier

          • Ariana Moreno

            yeah

      • Link9150

        Puns! Hahahaha
At least we’ll still get our show :) All I hope is that it doesn’t disappoint me and by the looks of it, it looks like it’ll be my most favorite. I’m hyped once more!

    • Legama

Cause Korra is for a more advanced public. The show is just too much for the average today’s kid that regularly watches Nick. So they treat Korra in a way, fans like us know about it, but kids dont :P so their heads dont explode with the awesomeness of Korra. XD

      • Link9150

That’s exactly what I think at times. The Legend of Korra and Avatar The Last Airbender are way too good for Nickelodeon.

  • santos1192

I’m confused, are we getting the first three eps or only the first two? Cause it says bonus presentation of ep 3 at eight.

    • http://avatarthelegendofkorraonline.com/ Keval

First three episodes will premiere on Friday.

  • Ariana Moreno

I have mixed feelings about this. I’m excited and happy that we are finally getting what we’ve been waiting for, but on the other hand, it’s obvious how Nick just doesn’t consider Korra important, therefore throwing their hands up and airing it with barely any time for news to hit all the fans. The one good thing about that is that there will be no more chances for spoilers and leaks to happen, but its’ almost like they threw away opportunities for a chance to ensure ratings are high. We should just focus on the positive which is the fact that this book seems to kick book 1 and 2′s ass.

  • Yung Nasib

OMG ……I WAS RIGHT, I predicted at the end of the month and i was right,

    • Josh

If your the guy who bet his house than you can take mine Lol. Who would have thought!

      • Yung Nasib

hahaha, i was like laughing wow…cuzz it is kinda pointless to wait for comic con

    • Apspiderboy

      Me too.

      • Yung Nasib

        woah thats crazy haha

  • Marcella

:S I can’t see it … It says that the video is unavailable in my location … Can someone help me? I’m dying to see it!

  • Elizabeth

I love that Korra is getting in Raiko’s face! He has a lot of nerve getting on Korra’s case considering he failed her in a pretty big way last season.

    • Yung Nasib

raiko is a douche, its about time korra stood up to him

      • Elizabeth

Yeah, I really hope he gets what’s coming to him.

    • Zuzu

Raiko is a moron, he has done nothing for the benefit for republic city and blames Korra for everything. I mean if Raiko wants to do something about the vines, he can, no ones stopping him but clearly he needs Korra’s help and he underestimates Korra’s powers.

  • coolguy

does anyone know where i can watch the clip above if I’m in canada?

    • Zuzu

Get the Hola extention on google chrome and click on the US flag.

  • Zuzu

IF there is one thing i want to complain about is that it Nick spends millions to market terrible shows with low ratings all together, the only exception is spongebob but doesn’t market LoK. WTF Book 3 will probably be the best and it has a huge potential for ratings and Nick doesn’t give a shit.

  • bumju

Bryke: *to nick* Dese hoes ain’t loyal….

  • Remm

So apparently I passed out after reading this.

  • daniel yefru

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I WANTED TO SEE THE REST AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    • EpicAvatarGerber

      don’t we all…

  • Laneskeeper

    Im shocked!

  • Legama

Boom bitches, some said September, other August, July, but it ended up being June, Wow, that’s actually SOOON. Ok Nick, you did well this time, and you may be pardoned :P Just next week and three episodes special. Excelent.
Did they change the release date because of the leaks?

  • tj

i love how in what we’ve seen so far the writers are kind of making fun of the show in a way. With bolin talking about everyones roles in the family and how korras ratings are down in the public eye kind of like how the shows ratings are down.

    • Jds1421

      I thought the same!

  • crystalline

How do we know what happened in Book 3′s second episode? Is there a clip for that too?

    • crystalline

      nevermind….

  • sally

Why do people keep saying Friday is bad. I don’t so crap Friday’s. Sunday’s though I have church.

    • crystalline

I feel Saturday morning are perfect and they should revert back to that time slot. Most everyone sleeps in Saturday mornings. Friday nights most people go out, Sundays people have church, but Saturday mornings…its perfect!

  • crystalline

Is it just me or do their voices sound slightly different?

  • Sam

Is there a youtube link to the 5 minute sneak peak? i cant watch it in my country.

  • M

    New trailer!

    • Wyatt

      That was impressive :0

  • Anonymous

Korra has finally come back home! I’m so overjoyed!!! I’ve missed this show a whole lot!! :’)

  • http://thenikhilmishra.blogspot.in/ Nikhil

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW…@! Finally.! It was really to keep myself away from those spoilers.!

  • Someone

    What time 7 PM? PDT..?

  • Sibis

So the people of Republic City are not on board with Korra’s New World Order Human Spirit integration project. Raiko isn’t the only one giving Korra heat, it’s also the citizens who lost their homes.

With public poll number below 10%, I can see why they would run her out of Republic City.

Korra and Raiko can’t stand each other. She tries to pick a fight with Raiko and throw some of the blame on him, but it’s still mostly her fault that all happen.

    • Korrava

She has a right to act like that towards him. To think he’d be a little more humble and caring towards the person that saved the world from eternal darkness, Korra is not upset because they’e blaming it on her, she’s upset because she can’t help the city.

      • Sibis

Raiko or any RC citizen who lost their home wouldn’t be all that thankful. Knowing that Korra was personally responsible for helping bring the world to the brink of eternal darkness in the first place and failing to prevent her power hungry Uncle/Vaatu along the way up to his attack on Republic City. The Avatar was the only one who could open and close both portals, with Vaatu needing both of them open to get free.

        • Korrava

What’s your point? Yes it is her fault, but the actions of Raiko made it even worse. He could have simply sent his troops to help and none of this would have ever happened.

Her leaving the portals open didn’t just leave negative consequences, she is going to be re forming an entire lost nation.

          • Sibis

Raiko did nothing. He did the Bumi approach and just waited. Situation only got worse because Korra escalated it.

Raiko was within his authority to refuse to take military action. Korra in Episode 5 didn’t have a world threatening case to present at that time. She just said, “Oops I made a mess siding with my Uncle and helping the NWT take over my SWT home. Please send the Republic City military to help clean up my mess.”

To Raiko it sounds like a civil war started over a family squabble.

          • Korrava

You’re pretty much alone on this one, everyone is against Raiko. Yo’re just picking on Korra because you don’t like her.

          • Sibis

I just say Raiko was right and Korra was wrong. It’s not his fault Korra took a side in the civil war and released the eternal darkness.

It’s just a matter of Korra taking responsibility for her own messes and managing them herself. If she can’t do that. Then she shouldn’t be causing them or helping make the mess in the first place. Especially when one of her main flaws is recklessness.

          • ShatteredWorld

Except that, by the time we reach the Wan episodes, it’s obviously become more bigger than just “A civil war”. Raiko deciding not to lend Korra and the South help ultimately did lead to the events that are affecting Republic City now. Just saying.

    • Jds1421

Had Raiko only helped Korra infiltrate the southern portal, she would have had more time to close the portals.
He is just a numbskull and the animation is intended to get you annoyed by him.
It’s also a shot for the writers to parallel Korra viewer ratings. Lol

  • guest

Can someone please put up the extended trailer because I can’t watch it since I’m in England and it’s not available in my location. When I try to go on nick it goes to the UK nickelodeon which hasn’t even aired book 2 yet

    • Kyle Edgecomb

the uk sucks when it comes to this kind of stuff…….but its different with movie releases as a lot of films come out like, a week before they do in the us

  • http://www.ChoOhana.deviantart.com/ ChoOhana

Wow this is quite a shocker for me! I’m so happy that it’s prieming earlier than I’ve heard in the rumors! The rumors have said it might preimie sometime next year but wow if premies June 27th, that would be totally be AWESOME since I don’t want to wait another year for it to preime!

  • avatarlover

Can you watch the episodes on nick the 27 june?

  • Apspiderboy

Just wanted to say that it’s 7 pm pacific time, just to clarify.

    • Clare

It said ’8/7c’, which I take to mean that it will be 8pm eastern, 7pm central, 6pm mountain, and 5pm pacific time. Is that not right?

      • Apspiderboy

Yea, that’s right. I was just saying that because Keval only said 7 pm.

  • X

Does anyone else think that when korra opened the spirit portal it somehow caused some nonbenders(like bumi),to become air benders due to the increase in spiritual energy?

  • KorraKorra

I love bumi. I just cannot stop laughing.

  • Millind Verma
