Zuko Appears to be in Legend of Korra Book 3 Clip

I’ve always known that the writers would re-introduce Zuko at some point during the series. It just wouldn’t make sense to keep him alive but out of the lime light at the same time. I expected the writers to re-introduce Zuko at some point during the course of Book 4, but the Book 3 clip that was leaked yesterday from Netherlands suggests otherwise. If you re-watch the clip, you probably won’t see any trace of Zuko throughout the 13 second time span. That’s because the recording included a grey area at the top of the video that made some of the content a bit more difficult to see.

Fortunately for all of us, someone who is able to see an official version of the clip took a picture of the clip about eight seconds in and it includes what appears to be a familiar face. On top of the dragon that resembles Fang is an older man who many believe to be Zuko. It’s quite astonishing that his figure cannot be deciphered the slightest bit in the original video, but we’re fortunate enough to have received a brighter image of the scene.

The original image from the clip can be seen below. After, you can see a brightened version of the image that appears to depict Zuko – an 85 year old ambassador of peace.

Greyed out image depicting Zuko.

Greyed out image depicting Zuko.

Below is the brightened version of the same scene. As you can see, the image is still not completely clear but it’s the best we have considering it’s only a leak. If any of you readers in Netherlands happen to stumble upon this clip, I urge you to re-record it and post it on YouTube so we can get a better look at the scenes from Book 3.

Enhanced

Even though this particular character “appears” to resemble Zuko, it’s not a sure thing. I don’t want to confirm that Zuko will be in Book 3, because this image does not confirm that. It definitely suggests it, but it doesn’t confirm it.

Zoom in on Zuko.

Zoom in on Zuko.

Alexander Giannie Mercardi, the original uploader of the video, also seems to think the character is Zuko. When asked for his opinion, he responded, “I’ve rewatched in on the tv a several times and it seems like the side of his head is indeed darker so it might be the Zuko scar but I am not very sure because his head is like a few pixels big. I can assure you that he is wearing fire nation clothes though.

His opinion is probably what counts at this point because he was able to see the original video. As you can see, the identity of this particular character is still in question. If you care for my opinion, I think this character is Zuko. I think Zuko will play an extensive role this season, which will be exciting to see.

What are your thoughts on this topic? Will we be seeing Zuko during the course of Book 3?

I’ve never actually had any reason to watch Nick on TV anymore (since the Dutch dubs are horrible imo), but I think I’m just gonna turn it on and hope for the best. Wanna see if it’s actually Zuko in the clip.

I want to listen to the Dutch version now, since I keep hearing about it (I’m American).

Reintroducing Zuko would be great, though we don’t know for sure, whether it is Zuko.
Anyway, some people think, this clip/trailer is fake, what do you think, Keval?
Surely this can’t be the work of a normal fan, but some people really think, that this is fake and not by Bryke/Studio Mir / nickelodeon. Are their any confirmed facts about it?

  • Legama

This scenes looks like something we would expect from book 4, but that book isn’t animated yet, so its obviously from book 3. This makes me wonder if this changes the panorama of the full season, I think this changes a lot what we believed will be the plot. If Zuko (If this is Zuko an not anyone else) is making his appearance in this earthbending centered book, may we expect a conflict between Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation? maybe because of the spirits or something else, or there is a problem between Earth Kingdom and the United Repuplic and Zuko is interceding, and Korra has to deal with this problem.
What do you think of the matter?

  • PurplePlatypusBear

I would bet money that this is the waterbending “bad girl” being voiced by Grey DeLisle (pardon the #8, it was a screenshot from the video Loklover posted)

Yes! I hope people keep posting high quality pictures from the trailer like this. Trailer Breakdown:

The trailer kicks off with Korra in the Avatar state spirit bending the spirit vines in Republic City. From what we can see she is accompanied by Lin Beifong and Bolin.
I know every ones wondering who the lady fighting the White Lotus sentries is. Personally I think she’s a knew character. It could be Opal or someone one we haven’t heard of yet. The reason that many people just think it’s Korra is because she is air bending and from what we know there are only 5 air benders in existents. What if this mysterious lady has been given the power to air bend by the lion turtles? Back in the episodes beginnings part 1 and 2 we found out that Lion Turtles were these beings that protected the humans from the spirits by giving them the power of the element’s and a place to live. The Lion Turtles went into hiding after Avatar Wan sent the spirits back to their own world. Now that Korra has reopened the spirit portals maybe the Lion Turtles will return to perform their duty as protectors of the human race. From what I know this is the only logical explanation( Granted that lady isn’t Korra) as to why this unknown character is capable of air bending. For those who think it is Korra here are a few reasons to support my theory of it being a completely different character. She is wearing an out fit completely different from Korra’s usual one. Her hair seems to be down, but Korra usually wears hers in three pony tails. Lastly it looks like this scene takes place in the same location as the one with Team Avatar in front of some sort of aircraft. They both are on top of a mountain and the sky looks to be the same. So if Korra is that good at out fit changes I give her props. Also during the summer Grey Delisle said she would be voicing a female character that is a bender as well as a “Bad” girl! She confirmed that she wasn’t a fire bender, so why would it be that big of a spoiler if she were an Earth bender or Water bender? The only element that an antagonist could have that would be surprising to the fandom is air. And from this clip that lady seems to be a “Bad” girl. I mean what good guy attacks the White Lotus? here is a link to the interview. Its not the full thing it’s just the part where Grey talks about the new Female character she will be voicing in book 3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LoNTVfmZbI

The next scene to break down is the one of Korra attacking the Earth kingdom men. From their clothing and their surroundings I would say that they are sand benders. You can see that all of them except for one is wearing goggles. In the desert it is very common for people to wear goggles to protect their eyes from the sand. Also the buildings in the background look as is they are made up of sand instead of Earth. Will Team Avatar make a visit to the same desert that Wan Shi Tong’s Library used to be located in? If you take a look at the guy in the middle he is holding something is his hands. These people are probably bandits and stole something that Korra needs. Then again she could just be dishing out some vigilante justice.
Now lets talk about Tenzin with his shirt off. Many people myself included believe this is when the subset for air bending is first introduced. I mean what else would make Tenzin have to take off his robe? He might even be fighting that mysterious female bender! I’ve always wondered what a battle between two air benders would be like. After the scene with Tenzin air bending it skips to a shot of Team Avatar in the same location that Tenzin was air bending in. Maybe the White Lotus contacted Korra for help in fighting the mysterious female bender.
Last is the most exciting scene in this trailer, Zuko riding on top of a dragon. I think it’s pretty much confirmed that it’s Zuko. I’ve been looking at a bunch of HQ photo’s and you can see his scar. The hairstyle is even similar to adult zuko’s. Many people believe that the dragon he is riding on came from the golden egg that Aang and Zuko found during the episode “The Firebending Masters.” In that episode Aang comments that the egg almost feels alive. If a dragons embryo was in there that would make perfect sense. In the scene Zuko is talking to a White Lotus member. They could be talking about the rising threat that is this mysterious air bender or something completely different. The location is very interesting as well. To me it bares an unnatural resemblance to Master Piandao’s castle. If you recall he was also a White Lotus member. When he died(Assuming that he did) he could have left his castle to the Order of the White Lotus.
Sorry that this was so long. Below are some pictures from the trailer to support my claims.

    • MG

After Avatar Wan made the spirits returned, the Lion Turtles renounced their roles as Protectors. Over time, all but one Lion Turtle were killed. The Lion Turtle happened to be the one that Aang met, and he imparted the knowledge of energybending.

Although it was suggested that the last Lion Turtle possessed the knowledge of energybending, it is not the case as all Lion Turtles were capable of energybending, but bestowed upon different elements. Therefore, we don’t know which element this Lion Turtle possess.

But by looking at the pattern of the forehead, it resembles that of fire Lion Turtle, the one that Wan inhabited.

That being said however, it doesn’t mean that the one encounter by Aang was the exact Lion Turtle. The aye-aye spirit has mentioned that there are “dozens of them”, the the fact the the Lion Turtle is entirely filled with vegetation, and no buildings suggests it is one of the Lion Turtles that weren’t shown. We are also unable to suggest the element of the turtle based on its marking as there are no incidences which allow for correlation.

Indeed, the Lion Turtle could be one of air, and considering the low population of airbenders, it could grant the mysterious figure the element of air.

      • MG

But then again, the laws of physics don’t really apply in cartoons. People can jump long and high as a natural ability, and not an augmentation. Wind also tends to be visualized, making the swipes ambiguous: is it just wind, or airbending?

        • Josh

Yeah I agree. But since it was never officially said in the show that all Lion Turtles except for one were killed, the creators may be like oh lets make there still be a bunch of Lion turtles roaming about. I mean they would be able to explain it a lot better than the whole Sky Bison’s still being alive thing. Then again I don’t see what the point of giving people an elemental power that isn’t air bending would be. Plenty of people already posses earth, water, and fire. But very few posses air. So it makes sense that there would only be one Lion Turtle and he grants people the power of air.

    • Eliminator

The evil female bender is voiced by Grey DeLisle, who confirmed, that it is a bad waterbending girl.

      • Josh

No, Grey Delisle is voicing TWO new female characters in book 3. Do you think she would be so hesitant to say what kind of bender this person was then just blurt it out all nonchalantly? Grey said that this persons bending would give something big away. Someone being a water bender isn’t that big of a spoiler. And in the hq version if you go frame by frame you can tell that the person air bending is definitely not Korra.

        • knockknock

Maybe Aang had a bastard (illegitimate) airbender daughter. And since there was no one to teach her original airbending, she made up techniques of her own- maybe even the airbending subset.

Or it could be Korra/Tenzin/Any of the airbending kids in disguise. Or even a flashback of Aang. It could even be a flashback of Tenzin.

          There’s a lot of maybe-s, could-s, and or-s .

          • Josh

True I even thought about Aang possibly cheating on Katara. But they already in a way tarnished his name by making him a neglectful father(which i’m perfectly fine with) If they make Aang a cheater too, than that would be the end of his character. And is it me or does that persons clothing look like a Kyoshi warriors!

          • knockknock

Aang cheated on Katara with Suki? Can’t blame him. But here’s what I found weird: when the announcer says water: Korra bends water, when she says earth, Korra bends earth, but when she says fire, a white lotus member bends fire toward the airbending person. And the pattern continues after the announcer says air and Korra bends air.

Is korra that white lotus? Then surely that airbending person can’t be tenzin.

        • Eliminator

She is playing one character. It’s just that people got it wrong. First time she said, she is playing an evil bending girl, which is not a firebender. Second time in an interview, she said she is playing a waterbending bad girl. Most people like Korraspirit for example have count 1+1 together, she is playing one female waterbending bad girl.

          • Josh

In the interview that I posted Grey says, “I voiced the dark spirit, and now i’m voicing two new characters.” Then she goes into detail about one of the characters. Also I don’t think Grey would be so tight lipped in one interview then not in another. Grey said that the element that the bad female bends would give something big away. Her character being a water bender isn’t that “big.” In the other interview Grey says I’m actually voicing 3 characters. The dark spirit then two new ones. Then that’s when she says that one of them is water bender.

          • Eliminator

See it in this way. I doubt, that Grey would voice two villains / bad persons! I can’t prove my points, but I believe, Tenzin and his family are the last airbenders. Really.

          • Josh

I get where your coming from. I just find it suspicious that Grey was so tight lipped in one interview but not in the other. She makes it seem as if knowing this females bending abilities will spoil a big portion of Book 3 for the fans. That’s why I believe she voices this mysterious air bender. And it wouldn’t be that weird for her to voice two female villains. They could be sisters and have similar sounding voices, or they could have completely different voices. When Grey voiced the dark spirit and the mushroom spirit her voice was almost unrecognizable.

          • Eliminator

Yeah I know, and I don’t underestimate Grey’s voicing skills. Gosh, I loved Azula’s voice. I just think, it would make Tenzin and the ids look less special if there is another airbender. Might sound a bit dumb, but I really like Tenzin (#2 on my favorite LoK list), so I really hope they don’t lose their unique power!

      • MasterOfAll4Elements

No! I love DeLisle, but after Book 2 I’ve seen too much water bending! It will be weird every time her waterbender character talks I will think: Azula!!!!!!!

        • Eliminator

Yeah I agree. I’m done with all these evil waterbenders as well. We had Tarrlok, we had Amon, Unalaq is Tarrlok 2.0 and now we get that bad waterbending girl. I don’t think she will be a mjor villain though. But I agree, I would think about Azula, too!

          • stellarfish

Azula could’ve ended up with a waterbender, so it could be her grandchild, which would be awesome

          • Eliminator

Some people predict, that Azula is that fire healer in Beginnings, who helped Korra.

Interesting theory about the person fighting the white lotus, but what about this picture then. Its Korra and it doesn’t look like her usual clothes here? Could it be the same person fighting the white lotus (or is that really from book one)? Plus it wouldn’t be the first time her hair falls out of the ponytail while fighting.

That’s from book 1 when she infiltrated the equalist rally. Also why would Korra fight the White Lotus? I doubt that they have become evil.

        • melon lord

          You’re right its from book 1 episode 3. :)
I’ve seen some theories on tumblr that they’re not evil, but on different sides of an issue. Korra wants things done one way and they want/believe it should done another way. I’ve also read that maybe she’s not fighting them, but breaking into that building.

    • PurplePlatypusBear

      What?

      • PurplePlatypusBear

Oh, wait, now I know what you’re talking about. That theory Josh had. I thought you were getting confused with “bad-girl waterbender” Grey DeLisle is voicing. My mistake.

    • Josh

Its an interesting theory, but I really doubt that they will go that route. At least I hope they don’t. It would cause way to much controversy and just be weird. Then again that mysterious air bender is wearing an earth kingdom get up. So maybe Tenzin and Lin did have a kid. Though I highly doubt it. In my opinion if the creators do go this route it will just be weird. But at the same time very compelling lol :)
